The exuberance and depth of 2015 is found in abundance here, with red and black fruits, touches of fig and pomegranate, velvety and supple in texture. Firm but fine slate tannins, and lots of them, suggesting this will age well. It's balanced, super enjoyable with plenty of grip. Harvest September 28 to October 15. Brought into the US exclusively by Jeffrey Davies, the 2017 Château Marquis d'Alesme Becker might just be the finest wine from this estate to date. Made from 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot, aged in 65% new French oak, its deep purple color is followed by a gorgeous perfume of crème de cassis, black cherries, crushed violets, and cedary spice. Possessing terrific purity of fruit, medium to full body, building tannin, and a great finish, this balanced, impeccably made 2017 will need 2-4 years of cellaring and keep for two decades or more. It’s a gem in the vintage and readers owe it to themselves to check out this estate, which has an undeniably gorgeous terroir.HK$1,465.00 -

A rock star Margaux that should be snatched up by readers, the 2018 Château Marquis D'Alesme reveals a dense purple hue as well as ripe, sexy notes of blackcurrants, spicy oak, tobacco leaf, earth, and cedar. Deep, full-bodied, and gorgeously concentrated, it has velvety tannins, a layered, mouthcoating texture, and a great finish. It's a baby, but wow, what a wine. Hide bottle for 5-7 years if you can (you'll be forgiven for opening a bottle early) and it's going to evolve for 30-40 years.HK$3,710.00 -

The 2019 Marquis d'Alesme Becker was very impressive from barrel. Now in bottle, it has retained those engaging aromas of blackberry, raspberry, cedar and a pinch of spice, well defined and quintessentially Margaux. The palate is understated on the entry, smooth and sensual in texture, with gorgeous, very pure red fruit. I adore the harmony of this wine, and the way it sashays toward the finish. Deceptively approachable, this will mature beautifully in bottle.HK$1,690.00 -

A don't miss wine, this has wonderfully powerful fruits delivered with class and character. The abundant tannins have slate-edged grip and the black cassis and bilberry fruits sit alongside waves of oyster shell, liqourice, sage and black pepper. One of the most concentrated wines in the vintage, the 2021 Château Marquis D'Alesme still stays balanced and classy. Red and black fruits, graphite, smoked tobacco, and some cedar pencil notes all define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a layered, textured mid-palate, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Based on 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, aged in 60% new barrels, give it just a few years and enjoy over the following 10-12+.HK$2,325.00 -

(1x75cl) 2015Wine Advocate (88-90)
The 2015 Pommard 1er Cru Combes Dessus has a ripe blackberry, cola and spice-tinged bouquet that is actually quite Volnay in style thanks to its precocity. The palate is well balanced with succulent ripe tannin, plenty of black cherry and raspberry fruit, almost confit in style with fine balance towards the spicy finish that displays a touch of sinew. It should drink well over several years.HK$1,715.00 -
Vinous (89-92)
Very dark color. Lively aromas of blueberry and violet. Juicy and intense, with very ripe, sweet dark berry and chocolate flavors framed and enlivened by brisk acidity and saline minerality. This wine includes the Volnay Clos des Angles fruit, since production in this premier cru parcel was too small to make a separate cuvée.HK$7,485.00 -
(6x75cl) 2018Vinous (91-93)
The 2018 Volnay 1er Cru, a blend of Les Pitures and Les Mitans, has a perfumed bouquet of very pure black cherry and wild strawberry aromas. The palate is defined by slightly chalky tannins. Quite poised and mineral driven, tapering slightly toward the finish but maintaining impressive focus and elegance. Superb.HK$5,400.00 -
(6x75cl) 2020Vinous (90-92)
The 2020 Volnay 1er Cru is a ususal blend of Mitans and Les Pitures. It has quite a precocious bouquet with kirsch, red cherries and blood orange that conveys a sense of playfulness. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine acidity, a little Pommard-like in terms of structure towards the finish, though it does not possess the sustain of the Premier Crus on the aftertaste. Still, this will age well in bottle.HK$6,015.00 -

(12x75cl) 2008Vinous (90)
Medium red. Slightly high-toned aromas of licorice and minerals; a bit less pristine than the 2009. Juicy and penetrating, with enticing crushed cherry and berry flavors framed by piquant acidity. Pungent, concentrated wine with a persistent, energetic, brisk finish. Gives a drier impression than the 2009 version but does not come across as green.HK$20,515.00 -

The 2009 Volnay Caillerets is one of the subtler polished wines in this lineup. A model of weightless elegance, it presents hints of rose petals, sweet red cherries, licorice and minerals, all wrapped up in a sensual package that is impossible to resist. The wine’s understated finesse and inner sense of energy are both remarkable. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029.HK$17,000.00
