(1x75cl) 2014Wine Advocate - Robert Parker (89-91)
The 2014 Fixin les Crais is limited to two barrels, one new and one used. It has a lifted black cherry and wild heather-scented nose that is very nicely defined. The palate is structured and quite terse on the entry, more masculine than I expected with good backbone and a strict blackberry, sea salt-tinged finish. This is very promising, especially considering that les Crais is not a premier cru.HK$735.00 -

(bottled in February of 2017; production here was no higher than in 2016 owing to drought in '15): Dark red-ruby. Sweet black cherry and spices on the nose and palate. Lovely juicy, easygoing wine with good depth of texture--and nothing rustic about it. Finishes with serious but smooth tannins and noteworthy length. I like the combination of strong phenolic material and energy. Berthaut told me that she has no idea how the '15s will age, pointing out that her first vintage was 2013.HK$855.00 -

The 2018 Fixin Les Crais sees around 20% new oak. It has a lovely bouquet of dark cherry, black currant and violet aromas, the 20% whole cluster nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, quite good structure and fine acidity. Much more dense on the finish compared to the Fixin Village.HK$6,960.00 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2019 Fixin Les Crais, which includes 20% stems addition, sports dark berry fruit like the Les Clos, touches of iodine and violet, showing just a little more amplitude by comparison. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, very harmonious with lovely salinity. This feels very cohesive with a persistent finish. As good Fixin gets basically.HK$920.00 -

(3x75cl) 2015Vinous (91-93)
(the first vintage for this cuvée, as these vines just reverted back to Gerbet; the family owns one parcel in the bottom middle of the Clos, according to Amélie Berthaut; the vines are more than 50 years old but the estate has done a lot of recent replanting due to frost episodes in recent years; 50% new oak): Bright ruby-red. Pungent aromas of cassis, kirsch, spices, licorice and bitter chocolate (Howell Mountain Cabernet?). Penetrating, sharply delineated black fruit and minty herb flavors are lifted by a note of violet. The slightly peppery tannins build with air, making this wine almost tough in the early going. Leaves the palate vibrating but this Clos Vougeot will need extended aging to blossom in bottle.HK$6,390.00 -

Vinous - Neal Martin (93)
The 2021 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a light nose with red berry fruit and light tertiary scents. Initially, it suggests a shortfall in complexity and vigour, yet after ten minutes, it coheres nicely and gains bags of charm. The palate is well balanced with fine tannins. Crisp and sapid, this offers tightly coiled red fruit that conveys a sense of energy. Bright and tensile on the finish, this is a Clos de Vougeot that I end up admiring. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.HK$7,030.00 -
(12x75cl) 2016Wine Advocate (88-90)
The 2016 Fixin Village was taken from foudres that had been racked one month earlier. There is no new oak on this cuvée. It has a crisp redcurrant and cranberry-scented bouquet with a hint of wet clay coming through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin, crisp acidity, quite linear at the moment with a tightly knit, lightly spiced finish. This is a worthy follow-up to the 2015.HK$7,840.00 -

The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux St. Jacques is one of the most expressive wines in this range. The inclusion of 40% whole clusters lends an extra dimension of aromatic lift and nuance. Sweet red cherry, crushed rocks and mint liven up the finish in an absolutely impeccable wine loaded with pedigree. Readers who can find the 2013 should not hesitate, as it is terrific.HK$4,295.00 -

The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Petits Monts 1er Cru has another quite high-toned and opulent nose like Domaine Georges Noellat's, but here there is more red fruit and Pinoté evident. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy and ripe, fine structure with quite a minerally, chalky-texture, sapid finish that lingers nicely in the mouth. Just a little lactic and chocolaty on the finish - perhaps from the oak. That will be addressed with time in bottle. Very fine. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.HK$6,495.00 -
Vinous (93-95)
The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Petits-Monts 1er Cru has more intensity and slightly darker fruit compared to the Les Suchots, but it shares the same enthralling delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. This displays exquisite balanced, a little tight on the finish but it is supremely well focused with a very persistent, lightly peppered finish courtesy of the 20% whole bunches.
