Jeb Dunnuck (100)In comparison to the La Mouline, the 2018 Côte Rôtie La Turque shows a darker, more Côte Brune-like character (which is where this is from) in its broody black fruits, scorched earth, smoked meats, graphite, and exotic flowers. As with the other single vineyards in 2018, the purity of fruit is off the charts, it's full-bodied, has incredible tannins, perfect balance, and a finish that won't quit. It shows that classic 2018 ripeness with no sensation of weight or heaviness. It too has some up-front appeal but won't hit maturity for another 7-8 years, if not a decade, and is a 30-year-wine. |

Jeb Dunnuck (100)The 2019 Côte Rôtie La Turque reminds me slightly of the 2010, which at a recent tasting I thought was the greatest young wine I had ever tasted. The 2019 reveals a saturated purple hue as well as insane aromatics of bloody blue and red fruits, roasted meats, iron, ground pepper, and graphite, with perfectly integrated background oak. With full-bodied richness as well as a deep, layered, multi-dimensional mouthfeel, it has building tannins, flawless balance, and a finish that won't quit. This is an absolutely legendary Côte Rôtie in the making. It deserves 7-8 years of bottle age and will see its 30th birthday in fine form. |

Jeb Dunnuck (99)Classic notes of graphite, spring flowers, blackberries, crushed stone, and smoky oak all emerge from the 2020 Côte Rôtie La Turque. Based on 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier and brought up in 100% new French oak for 42 months, it's round and full-bodied, with incredible depth, richness, and purity. With no hard edges and a concentrated, multidimensional mouthfeel, it strikes a good balance between the upfront, sexy showoff that's the La Mouline and the more reserved, masculine, structured La Landonne. Drink 2025-2045. |

Wine Advocate (100)The 2010 Hermitage Ex Voto continues to top out on my scale. This extraordinary Hermitage has more minerality and delineation than the 2009, as well as overflowing aromas and flavors of creme de cassis, jammy blackberries, violets, graphite and wood smoke. Massively concentrated, full-bodied, decadent, layered and sexy, it needs short-term cellaring but should be just about immortal in the cellar. |

Wine Advocate (96+)The 2012 Hermitage Ex Voto (which I suspect won’t be produced again until 2015) was bottled in January of this year and it’s a big, voluptuous beauty that’s loaded with fruit and texture. Crème de cassis, black raspberries, crushed rocks and a touch of beef blood all soar from the glass of this beauty, which hits the palate with a wealth of sweet fruit, building, ripe tannin and blockbuster length. Liquid Viagra would suffice as a descriptor for this wine, and while it’s already impossible to resist today, it will age effortlessly for 25 or more years. |

Wine Spectator (97)This is intense, as dense ganache, espresso, roasted juniper and alder notes form an impressive frame around an equally ornate core of steeped fig, blackberry and black currant fruit flavors, all while maintaining terrific cut and drive despite the heft. A mouthwatering iron accent at the very end seals the deal. Best from 2020 through 2040. |

Jeb Dunnuck (98+)The rich, powerful, primordial 2015 Ermitage Ex Voto isn’t for those seeking instant gratification and will need a solid decade of bottle age. Incredible notes of crème de cassis, liquid rocks, Asian spices, and toasted bread all emerge from this full-bodied, massively endowed effort. It will most likely merit a triple-digit rating in 4-5 years and will keep for three decades. |

Jeb Dunnuck (98+)As with the base Hermitage, the 2017 Ermitage Ex Voto shows the sunny, perfumed personality of the vintage and has so much to love. Offering classic Hermitage notes of cassis and assorted red and black fruits as well as notes of graphite, burning embers, and smoke, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, that sense of classiness and regalness that’s rare to find outside of Hermitage, incredible mid-palate density, and a great finish. It will be interesting to see if the 2017s shut down, but as of right now, this is unquestionably expressive and enjoyable. It should benefit from 5-7 years of bottle age and keep for 2-3 decades. |

Vinous (98)Inky ruby color. Ripe black and blue fruits, Moroccan spices, smoky bacon, incense, olive, candied flowers and licorice on the hugely perfumed nose. Alluringly sweet and penetrating in the mouth, offering palate-staining, mineral-driven cherry, blackberry, floral pastille and exotic spice flavors that are underscored by a core of juicy acidity. Lingers with outstanding tenacity on the youthfully tannic, almost endless finish, which leaves behind sappy dark berry, spice and floral notes. |

Wine Advocate (96)The 2019 Ermitage Ex Voto is structured and perfumed quite differently from the La-La cuvées. It opens with aromas of oak, clove, spices and gentian. Full-bodied, dense and firmly built, it delivers a concentrated core of fruit and broad, authoritative tannins, concluding with a beautifully mordant, faintly mineral finish that shades into notes of tobacco and spice. Its intrinsic power and distinctly solar profile demand a proper stint in the cellar. |

Vinous (93)Full ruby color. The deeply perfumed nose showcases cherry, dark berries, licorice, savory herbs and olive notes. Concentrated, spice-laced cassis, cherry-cola and candied lavender flavors smoothly blend depth and vivacity. Polished tannins come in slowly on a very long, penetrating finish that strongly repeats the cherry and floral notes. |

Vinous (95)Glass-staining ruby. Powerful, mineral- and smoke-accented black and blue fruit, potpourri, olive and vanilla aromas acquire a spicy nuance as the wine opens up. Offers densely packed cherry-cola, cassis and blueberry flavors that show excellent clarity and a smoky top note. Finishes impressively long, youthfully chewy and spicy, with building tannins and a suave, lingering candied violet note. 50% new oak. |

Wine Advocate (93)The 2020 Hermitage from Maison E. Guigal opens with a deep, complex bouquet of tobacco leaf, baked dark berries, gentian, spices and subtle oak. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and structured, it’s powerful and concentrated, with a ripe, sun-warmed profile that concludes with a long, resonant and gently spicy finish. Keep it over the next 15–20 years. |

Vinous (93)Dark, brilliant ruby. Pungent black raspberry and cherry aromas are complemented by floral, olive and baking spice nuances. Smooth and expansive on the palate, offering spice-tinged red and blue fruit preserve, licorice and allspice flavors that show fine delineation and mineral lift. Juicy and subtly chewy in texture, finishing with resonating blue fruit and spice character; tannins slowly emerge. |

Jancis Robinson (18+)Tasted at the domaine. Beautiful nose with succulent pastille juiciness and purity with a strong smoked note. Such ripeness on the palate with beautiful depth and weight – the tannins are defined and sculpted – hard to believe it has 100% new oak. Plush and forward in a beautifully packaged, layered finish. |
