Vinous (90-92)

The 2017 Beaune Cras 1er Cru has a lovely, almost enveloping bouquet of macerated red cherries, raspberry and hoisin aromas that are perhaps the most expressive of Jadot’s seven Beaunes that I tasted out of barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy, quite generous opening and plenty of red plum, strawberry and light marmalade notes. There is a little sinew to the Beaune Cras, exerting an insistent grip toward the persistent finish. This is another very fine Beaune from Jadot.

Vinous (92-94)

The 2020 Beaune Cras 1er Cru includes 30% whole bunch as a trial for Jadot whose policy has always been to de-stem. To be honest, if I had this blind, I would not have said there is stems in this blend, which I see as a good thing. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, a fine bead of acidity, taut and fresh and I do think those stems lend more freshness on the finish. Excellent.

Jancis Robinson (16.5)

Cask sample. Pale garnet. Sweet nose and rather less freshness than the Boucherottes. Just a little less precise. But all may come right with bottle age.

Vinous (92)

Jadot’s 2012 Beaune 1er Cru Celebration is aromatically quite expressive, with lovely bright, floral notes that play off a core of red berry and stone fruits. The gracious, almost feminine, bouquet is alluring and suggests a wine that is quite open, but the palate sensation is completely different. Tiny yields and high skin to juice ratios yielded red Burgundies with huge tannic clout that obscures the fruit, which is exactly how the wine comes across in tasting. It will be interesting to see if the 2012 softens over time, or if it gains volume with aging. Today, it is decidedly on the austere side of things.

Open and pleasant nose showing pretty floral and ripe red berry fruit along with spicy oak. The palate is elegant and juicy with red apple, beetroot and dried cranberry flavours, crunchy, ripe tannins and a chalky undertone. Very fine, tasty and well handled.

Wine Advocate (92+)

Opening in the glass with aromas of sweet berries, cherries and plums framed by a deft application of toasty new oak, the 2018 Beaune 1er Cru Célébration (Maison Louis Jadot) is medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with a fleshy core of fruit structured around rich tannins and succulent acids. It's a hearty, generous wine that should evolve nicely in the cellar. As usual, it's a blend of more than a dozen Beaune premiers crus.

Vinous (91-93)

The 2020 Beaune Clos des Couchereaux 1er Cru has a sorbet-fresh bouquet, touches of blood orange suffusing the vivacious red fruit. The oak here is nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, gentle grip, slightly darker fruit than the Theurons with a dash of cracked black pepper on the finish. Good potential, but it will require 3-5 years in bottle.

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (93-96)

(13.8% alcohol) Full, deep ruby-red. Great liqueur-like richness on the nose, with complex notes of blackberry, blueberry, roasted herbs, minerals, coffee and earth. Superconcentrated and explosively deep, with wonderfully sweet yet firmly delineated flavors of black fruits and minerals. Knockout finish features extraordinary persistence, with a firmness belying the wine's very low (2.7 grams per liter) acidity. The wine's extraordinarily fine-grained texture resembles that of the Musigny and Amoureuses. Lardiere says this has a very high 30 grams per liter of dry extract, vs. 26 to 29 for most of the rest of these 2003s. Lardiere compared this wine to the '85 Bonnes-Mares, but this may be even richer.

Vinous (96+)

Good bright, full red. Brooding aromas of medicinal blueberry and menthol lifted by brilliant high notes of rose petal, mace and minerals. Compellingly deep and young, even youthfully imploded today, but this already boasts brilliant detail and energy and an exhilarating high pitch. Penetrating, powerful blue fruits, graphite, flowers and minerals stain the palate with flavor and will not quit. A great Bonnes-Mares for the Musigny lover. Should gain in bottle for two decades and go on for another two.

Wine Advocate (95)

The 2009 Bonnes-Mares is another wine that is showing very little of its potential today. Black cherries, cassis, licorice, graphite and spices are some of the many notes that emerge from this powerful, super-intense Burgundy. The finish turns implosive and incredibly mineral. This, too, should be a jewel when it awakens from its current state of dormancy. The 2009 is at once sensual yet powerful. In other words, it captures the nuance, complexity and pedigree of this site to the maximum. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039.

Vinous (93)

The 2011 Bonnes-Mares is quite attractive and unusually seductive, with less of the structure typical of this site, but a level of transparency that is incredibly intriguing. This is a remarkably polished, feminine Bonnes-Mares with great aromatic lift, lovely definition in its bright fruit and notable overall balance. The finish is persistent and nicely delineated.

Decanter (95)

The Bonnes-Mares is an excellent, cellar worthy wine this year, opening in the glass with a bouquet of cherries, wild berries, currant leaf, coffee and gamebird. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and concentrated, with excellent depth, rich but chalky tannins, and good energy through the long, penetrating finish. This is firmly structured but has the dimension and amplitude to carry it.

Wine Enthusiast (96)

This is a sumptuous wine, rich and full of both fruit and a cushioned structure. The generosity of this beautifully perfumed wine is considerable, giving juicy fruits as well as acidity. It has great aging potential so don't drink before 2026.

Vinous (95-97)

The 2018 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is armed with precocious black cherries, cassis, crushed violets and a touch of iodine on the nose, aromatics that have no intention of holding back. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, wonderful precision and sense of energy. Almost playful toward the very pure, sensual, vivid finish. This is a superb "BM" from Louis Jadot and it should offer 30-plus years of pleasure.
