Wine Advocate (100)The second perfect score I have given to a Hobbs Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (the other was the 2002), the 2013 is as spectacular as his 2002 was. There are 638 cases of this massive wine that comes across like a first-growth Pauillac. Lead pencil shavings, cedar wood, blueberry and blackberry liqueur as well as hints of forest floor and tobacco leaf are all present in this fragrant, sumptuously textured, full-bodied, massively rich yet sensationally well-balanced Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a finish of well over 55 seconds. This is amazing work, and interestingly, I believe Hobbs was the first to offer a Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard designated Cabernet Sauvignon. |

Wine Advocate (98+)Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard reveals notes of blackberry preserves and blueberry compote with chocolate box, star anise, sandalwood, dried meat and black loam nuances. The full-bodied palate is earthy and muscular, with a solid frame of ripe, grainy tannins and just enough freshness to support the taut earthy and savory flavors, finishing on a lingering spicy note. 840 cases were made. |

Wine Advocate (98)Deep purple-black in color, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard opens with seducing notes of crushed black currants, blueberry compote and dried mulberries with hints of spice cake, sandalwood, dried roses and star anise plus a touch of smoked meats. Full-bodied, rich, ripe and densely packed, the opulent fruit is superbly framed by velvety tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with lingering spice layers. 758 cases were made. |

Wine Advocate (99)Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard slides seductively out of the glass with the most gorgeous notions of Chinese five spice, plum preserves, crème de cassis and potpourri plus hints of oolong tea, spearmint and cedar chest. Full-bodied, rich, opulent and oh-so-decadent in the mouth, the generously spiced black fruit preserves, the firm, plush frame and the finish are simply epic. 469 cases were made. |

Wine Advocate (98+)Deep garnet-purple in color, the nose of the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard starts off with soft-spoken scents of ripe red and black plums, cassis, black raspberries and mulberries, followed by gentle wafts of cedar and pencil lead and finally bursting out with Sichuan pepper and hoisin notes. The medium to full-bodied palate is opulent, plushly textured and brimming with spicy red and blackberry layers, going beautifully perfumed on the long finish. Paul Hobbs mentioned that he backed off on the new oak this year, aging the wine in 85% new French oak (as opposed to 100%). I love this more elegant, nuanced expression a lot. 688 cases were made. |

Jeb Dunnuck (99)More expressive and open-knit, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard sports a similar ruby/purple to go with an incredible array of black raspberry, cassis, flowery incense, orange blossom, smoked tobacco, and exotic spice. As are all To Kolans, it's incredibly perfumed and complex aromatically, and it's one of those wines that changes every time you come back to the glass. Full-bodied on the palate, it offers beautiful richness and depth, a light, graceful mouthfeel, silky tannins, and a heavenly finish. It's another magical wine from this talented winemaker that readers will absolutely love. |

Vinous (97)Vivid and utterly captivating, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Nathan Coombs Estate Vineyard is also a wonderfully complete wine that brings together aromatic complexity, unctuous fruit and powerful structure, all signatures of this great Napa Valley vintage. Today, the 2013 is even better than it was from bottle. Drops of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot round out the blend in a wine that captures the very best of site and year. |

Jeb Dunnuck (98)The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Nathan Coombs Estate is on another level. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a site in Coombsville which is a cooler terroir in the southern part of the Valley and spent 20 months in all new French oak. Sporting an inky purple/blue color and incredible notes of blackcurrants, scorched earth, graphite, damp earth and leafy herbs, it incredibly concentrated, opulent and decadent, yet always balanced and pure. It's a real “Wow” wine that's going to knock your socks off over the coming 2-3 decades. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (93)The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Nathan Coombs Estate is redolent of black cherry, plum, grilled herbs, worn-in leather, chocolate, clove and copious sweet oak from 100% new barrels Paul Hobbs used at the time. Powerful and dark in the glass, the 2015 has plenty of textural intensity, but it is also peaking. I would not push my luck on aging. This was the fourth vintage Paul Hobbs made from his Coombsville estate. Recent vintages show more finesse and a lighter hand with oak. |

Wine Advocate (98+)Very deep purple-black in color, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Nathan Coombs Estate slowly reveals enticing notions of fresh blackberries, wild blueberries and black raspberries with emerging suggestions of cassis, tilled earth, tar and tobacco leaf. Full-bodied, the palate delivers firm, beautifully ripe tannins and tons of tightly wound, muscular black fruits with a whole myriad of savory accents and great tension, finishing with jaw-dropping purity and length. Consider broaching this sleeping giant in 4-5 years and drink it over the next 25 years+. |

Vinous (91)The 2017 Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley) is bright, floral and nicely lifted, with plenty of red cherry pie and berry character. Medium in body and wiry - perhaps because of its recent bottling - the 2017 has plenty to recommend it. This is a gorgeous wine in its peer group. |

Wine Advocate (94)The 2015 Cornas Domaine de Saint Pierre is a full-bodied, concentrated wine that brings the essence of Cornas to the bottle in its scents of crushed stones and firm, tannic finish. Hints of toasted almond and mocha give it a gloss of modernity, but its red plum fruit, hints of iron or blood, and sturdy feel bring it right back to the appellation's granite slopes. |

Vinous (93)Inky ruby. Powerful, mineral-driven aromas of ripe black/blue fruits, candied violet, olive and exotic spices. Densely packed and focused on the palate, offering bitter cherry and boysenberry flavors that unfold slowly with air and show sharp delineation. The blue fruit and floral notes drive a long, juicy finish given framework by dusty, slow-building tannins. |

Vinous (94)Opaque violet color. Displays potent, mineral-accented dark berry preserve and incense aromas that are complemented by floral, olive and musky spice nuances. Chewy, densely packed and focused on the palate, offering intense blackberry, blueberry, candied violet and smoky bacon flavors that become livelier with air. Finishes on lingering mineral and floral notes, with solid thrust, youthfully gripping tannins and excellent persistence. |

Matthew Jukes (18)Domaine de Saint Pierre usually sports a midnight black hue and impenetrable fruit in its youth, but in 2020, there is a purple colour and a more red-fruited feel throughout. Juicy and surprisingly fresh, this is a delicious, lip-smacking Cornas, and I cannot remember using either of these expressions about wine from this appellation before. |

Vinous (94)Vivid purple. Sexy, mineral-accented aromas of ripe dark berries, candied violet, olive and smoky Indian spices show excellent clarity and energetic lift. Sweet and focused on the palate, offering juicy, nicely concentrated black raspberry, cherry and floral pastille flavors and a hint of allspice. An intense mineral nuance drives a strikingly long, gently tannic finish. |

Vinous (94)Glass-staining ruby. An expansive bouquet evokes blue fruit preserves, potpourri and olive paste, and a hint of smoky bacon builds in the glass. A vibrant mineral nuance adds energetic lift to sappy boysenberry, blackberry spicecake and violet pastille flavors that deepen and spread out slowly on the back half. Shows wonderful energy for its heft and finishes on a gently tannic note, displaying sharp delineation and emphatic mineral thrust. |

Wine Advocate (94)The 2017 Cote Rotie Domaine des Pierrelles is full-bodied but exceedingly elegant, with silky, fine-grained tannins. Charming notes of violets, raspberries and black olives lead the way, backed by hints of dried spices and mocha, finishing long. It's a complex and compelling example of Cote Rotie, and it's great to see all of the Jaboulet team's hard work in the vineyards paying off. |
