Immerse yourself in the exceptional pleasure of the Giribaldi Barolo Cerviano-Merli 2016, an intoxicating embodiment of artisanal Italian winemaking. Produced by the esteemed Giribaldi estate nestled in the ethereal landscape of Piedmont, Italy, this wine is a testimony to centuries of viticultural prowess. Crafting this fine wine involved meticulous selection of Nebbiolo grapes, which were then gently pressed before fermentation in stainless steel, preserving the grapes' earthy complex flavours. Aged for 42 months in Slavonic oak barrels, the resultant wine is nothing short of sublime. The Giribaldi Barolo Cerviano-Merli 2016 mesmerizes with its intriguing bouquet of ripe cherry, gentle spice, and leather, complemented by a tantalising, decorously-tannic palate. Unparalleled in its grace and depth, it's a choice complement to savoury dishes, serving as a testament to the Giribaldi winery's laudable dedication to the sublime art of winemaking.

(6x75cl) 2011Wine Advocate (90)
This experimental, concentrated, 100% Merlot from a vineyard planted with 10,000 vines per hectare, is treated like a pampered child in its viticulture, fermentation and upbringing in barrel. Made by the Despagne family, this luxury cuvee has been a brilliant success in just about every vintage they have released to date. The 2011 is a big, robust effort whose exuberant tannins, which are not fully integrated, suggest caution may be needed. Loaded with sweet, rich, chocolaty berry fruit intermixed with graphite and vanilla notes, it still reveals some new oak, so some additional time in the bottle is warranted. It is hard to believe that a wine that carries a Bordeaux appellation exhibits the courage and visionary zeal needed to produce something like this. This offering should drink well for a decade, but the tannins need to be better integrated for it to fully merit an outstanding score.HK$1,785.00 -

After initial tastings suggested there was too much tannin, the wine has undergone a welcome transformation. It has become powerful and ripe, deliciously sumptuous, allying the tannins with densely ripe, sweet black fruits. It keeps its sense of balance, but all this density gives aging potential.HK$6,465.00 -

Firm, solid, chunky, a great success from a château that is currently in top form, even in more difficult years. The bright fruits charge through the tannins, giving some richness, balancing with the elegance and freshness of the year. Worth aging.HK$5,875.00 -

This has attractive, glossy, ripe red-plum and licorice aromas with cedar, flowers and red berries, as well as a stony edge. A very fragrant, cabernet-driven nose. The palate has elegance and grace with sleek and charming, balanced style and a discreet tannin structure that holds the finish long and fresh. A blend of 81 per cent cabernet sauvignon and 19 per cent merlot. Try from 2023.HK$6,310.00 -

Decanter (95)
Soft and a touch earth on the attack but pulls itself together to show firmly in-control tannins. There is a natural austerity offset by a clear punch of redcurrant, raspberry and autumnal fruits. Good freshness, softened by smoked cedar on the finish. Reminds me of an early stage 2011, and this wine in 2017 seems set to age just as gracefully in the end.HK$4,910.00 -
