The 2013 Coddington Chardonnay is delicious, complex and nutty, composed and sleek. This shows an intensity of fruit and length that I find utterly attractive, all of it swathed in a cloak of chalky minerality. There's not a lot more to be said of this; it is both calm and capacious, enduring and savory. This gets a big yes from me.HK$5,955.00 -

The 2014 Coddington Chardonnay leads with beeswax and brine, pressed white flowers, crushed shells and chalky minerality. The wine is restrained and elegant, mouthfilling in its intensity and showing spicy prowess through the finish. It's very, very good, excellent, in fact. Notions of oak-derived (?) bacon fat through the finish boost complexity and interest. There's plenty of time left to go here.HK$5,510.00 -

There's a sense of calm to the 2020 Chardonnay Estate, a blend of six different sites. It is mellow, offering a plump cushion of Chardonnay goodness on the midpalate but not becoming heavy nor opulent, its youthful edge and fresh acidity tying it together into a precise finish. It offers classic subtle Chardonnay characters of Golden Delicious apple, white nectarine and a mere whiff of oak-derived smokiness. Well constructed, satisfying and elegant.HK$2,800.00 -

Taut, mouth-watering chardonnay in a rather Burgundian style, with a nice blend of fruit, oyster-shell, toast, spice and nutty oak flavours. Good weight and concentration. Accessible now but should respond well to a little bottle age.HK$910.00 -
Matthew Jukes (18.5+)
The winemaking regime is identical to the preceding wines – hand-harvested, whole-bunch pressed, wild yeast fermented in 100% oak, and it spends 11 months in barrel (25% new) after malo. This time, a piercingly fresh bouquet is driven along briskly by a strident citrus theme. Super-tasty, really long and with an amazing volume of flavour, this is my favourite of the ‘Premier Cru’ wines. Grab some now, for fear of missing out. You can drink it today without the wine police visiting you, but it will sing in a couple of years and hold easily for a decade!HK$2,268.00 -
