(from a .28 ha parcel). Reduction. The markedly sleeker and more refined middleweight flavors possess a lovely sense of delineation on the dusty, youthfully austere and sneaky long finale. This is pretty much textbook Damodes that could be enjoyed young or kept for a decade plus. In a word, lovely.

Firm reduction masks the fruit though there is again a beguiling sense of underlying tension suffusing the detailed and stony medium-bodied flavors that flash good power on the moderately austere and lingering if mildly warm finish that is supported by relatively fine-grained tannins. In contrast to the Damodes that could reasonably be enjoyed young, this compact effort is clearly in need of at least moderate to longer-term cellaring.

The much bigger broad-shouldered flavors also possess outstanding density and power while exuding evident minerality on the precise, firm and very serious finale that delivers excellent length where the only nit is a hint of warmth. This is usually the undisputed best wine in the range but in 2022, the Perrières may well give it a run for its money.

Here the super-fresh and vibrant medium weight flavors are not as concentrated or powerful but they are notably finer as well as more mineral-driven on the firm, serious and overtly austere finale. This possesses excellent potential but it isn’t a wine for youthful drinking.

A little deeper in ruby colour. A pleasing mid ripeness to the fruit, this Nuits Lavières is beautifully balanced, with a fine mineral crunch following the solid and persistent raspberry fruit. The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Argillats 1er Cru has a fresh and delineated bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit, pressed white flowers and truffle. The palate is well balanced with sappy red fruit, fine tannins, nicely focused with impressive tension and mineralité on the finish. It ranks as one of Guillaume Tardy's best cuvées this year.

A fine even purple. The bouquet delivers just a little more intensity, and indeed class. A dark raspberry fruit but fresher than the Chambolle, and the acidity behind is up to the task. There is a fine clean fruit all the way through, the best balanced and most interesting of the Tardy wines. Fine tannins and even a mineral touch to assist the acidity. Drink from 2028-2035. Mid crimson. Darker-fruited than the Chorey and the Savigny, deep, pure dark fruit and some Nuits spice. Oak seems a little more marked on the nose and also on the palate. Open and surprisingly approachable but needs time for the oak to back off a bit. Long, dark, savoury finish.

The 2022 Musigny Grand Cru underwent two pickings, August 27 for the declassified younger vines, and September 5. It has a well-defined bouquet with touches of undergrowth infusing the brambly red fruit, graphite and tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh, and vibrant with svelte tannins, fine acidity, and an elegant finish. This very refined Musigny will improve with bottle age.

A fuller purple than either Arlot cuvée, which is as normal. The bouquet holds the promise of clean fruit at optimum ripeness, but does not deliver detail at this point. Plenty of energy here, some slightly firmer tannins, correct acidity, and then the more perfumed red berry fruit, slightly more raspberry here, returns at the back. Drink from 2030-2037. Fine tension, medium plus bodied, more strawberry than raspberry, with an even fruit through to the finish, where the fine tannins and light acidity are in balance. Drink from 2029-2036. The 2022 Musigny Grand Cru does not hold back with a multi-layered nose of wild strawberry, raspberry, forest floor, pain d'épice and a light ash-like scent. Very absorbing and beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with finely chiseled tannins. Impressive depth and grip, as you would expect from a Musigny, with a touch of white pepper and orange rind towards the finish. Very long. It will require 8 to 10 years in bottle, but it's certainly worth the wait.

Here the expressive nose blends hints of cassis and red berry liqueur with those of soft spice and newly turned earth.
