Wine Advocate (94)
This is Marchesi Antinori's top white wine, and it comes from the region of Umbria. The Castello della Sala 2022 Cervaro della Sala is based on Chardonnay and has a small part of the local grape Grechetto in the blend. The nose opens to a reductive note of flint or matchstick, but it lifts quickly to reveal soft orchard fruit, white peach and minty apple. There are delicately applied toasted notes with a hint of pecan or macadamia nut. To finish, you also get salty mineral notes that underline the extremely vertical or lifted personality of the bouquet. Renzo Cotarella tells me that tweaks to winemaking in recent years have attempted "to slim down the wine and not make it any bigger." This was a hot vintage, but Cervaro della Sala remains true to its leaner and meaner blueprint. However, given its accessible personality, we could expect a shorter drinking window for the 2022s.HK$3,915.00 -

The 2022 Bourgogne Chardonnay is a blend of parcels, 70% in Meursault and 30% in Puligny, with a majority purchased grapes and juice. It has a fresh, vibrant bouquet with citrus fruit and crushed stone - very well-defined. The palate is well-balanced with a slightly creamy texture thanks to the 20% new oak (a little higher than usual), offering touches of chamomile on the finish. Fine. NB This cuvée is bottled under Diam.HK$1,190.00 -
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-94)
Mid lemon yellow, with some warmth to the nose. On the palate there is a delicious depth of quality fruit with a little bit of mirabelle, but with a wave of slightly different flavours and a mineral touch to finish. Drink from 2028-2034.HK$5,055.00 -
Vinous (93-95)
The 2022 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru has a complex bouquet with lemon verbena, Clementine, hints of almond and hazelnut, and crushed stone coming through with time. The palate is well-balanced with a wonderful, slightly pithy texture and very good use of extract. It is slightly creamy but delivers a touch of spice on the refined finish. A sleek and composed Les Charmes.HK$6,540.00 -
Vinous (94-96)
The 2022 Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru comes from the oldest vines, almost 80 years old, planted by Charles Ballot's grandfather Raymond. It has the most mineralité on the nose, perhaps the most austere, but you cannot ignore the energy in this wine. The well-balanced palate has an absolute killer line of acidity, surfeit with tension, fanning out gloriously towards the finish. This stunning Meursault ranks amongst the finest in this vintage.HK$7,430.00 -

Really fresh and vivid with sliced grapefruit, lemon, green apple and white peach. Apricot, too. Medium to full body with phenolic texture and a long, vivid finish. 70% sauvignon, 20% semillon and 10% muscadelle. Drink or hold.HK$3,600.00 -
Burghound (90-92)
Highly restrained if not mute aromas are comprised by notes of green apple, just sliced lemon, anise and plenty of mineral reduction character. There is both excellent intensity and minerality to the big-bodied and powerful flavors that conclude in a bone-dry, linear and borderline strict finale that doesn't have the length it usually does. This of course may change but it would be fair to say that it's awkward today.HK$12,235.00 -

This shows real precision and sophistication. Tight and dense palate that is concentrated but not heavy, with intensity and minerality. Sea salt and white pepper at the end. This is really at the top level of dry white Bordeaux now. 70% sauvignon blanc and 30% semillon.HK$6,780.00 -
L'Aphrodisiaque 2016 is a marriage of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir vinified entirely in older oak barrels of at least 15 vintages.HK$11,500.00 -

Here is another must-try wine if you love Trebbiano from Italy's rustic and beautiful Abruzzo region. On a scale of Italian whites, there is no doubt regarding the aging potential of this fascinating workhorse grape. The Emidio Pepe 2020 Trebbiano d'Abruzzo (a certified organic wine) delivers some of the distinctive flavors that come with extended skin contact. You get dried apricot, honey, pine nut and beeswax. Those robust aromas meet the wine's generous mouthfeel and creamy texture. The alcohol is measured at a manageable 12.5%. This contributes greatly to the pleasure factor of this wine. Production is 33,811 bottles.HK$2,975.00 -

Disgorged in January 2020, the 2009 Extra-Brut Premier Cru Millésime represents a new direction for Selosse's vintage bottling, as Guillaume Selosse wanted to produce this cuvée from all of the six villages in which the domaine's holdings are located. The resulting wine is spectacular, soaring from the glass with a deep and complex bouquet of mandarin orange, honeycomb, ripe peaches, freshly baked bread, almond paste and dried apricots. Full-bodied, deep and complete, it's elegantly muscular and multidimensional, with extraordinary mid-palate amplitude, ripe but lively acids and a long, intensely sapid finish.HK$102,590.00 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (98)
The 2004 Vintage is a gorgeous Champagne that is just beginning to enter its first plateau of maturity. Dried flowers, brioche, mint, marzipan, tangerine peel and spice lend notable nuance throughout. A hint of reduction adds intrigue. As always, the 2004 is a linear, focused Champagne endowed with terrific energy. It is impeccably done. There's a bit more Chardonnay and Meunier than usual in this vintage, and that very much comes through in the wine's personality and overall feel. The blend is 37% Pinot Noir, 39% Chardonnay and 24% Meunier as opposed to the more classic 50%/35%/15% blend. Disgorged: Summer 2018. Krug ID: 318031.HK$16,385.00 -

Dense and tight with a solid core of sliced Meyer lemon, lime and green apple. It’s full and very compact with a phenolic texture that runs the length of the wine. Slightly chewy, yet, it’s long and persistent with a mineral and bitter citrus undertone at the end.HK$5,340.00 -

The 2022 Chenin Blanc comes from the two old blocks planted in 1974 and 1976. It is whole bunch pressed, but unlike the Sauvignon Blanc, it is not settled and matured in foudres and used 300-liter oak, where it stayed for ten months on the lees. It has a very delineated bouquet with Granny Smith scents and light sea spray aromas, a very Zen-like Chenin that expresses the granitic terroir. The well-balanced palate has a slight viscosity on the entry, a little richer than previous vintages but without compromising tension, with hints of peach skin and yellow plum towards the finish. The 2010 Dom Ruinart is starting to open up nicely. There's still plenty of the intense, chalky minerality and energy the wine showed last year, but also a bit more mid-palate richness to balance things out. Lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers, slate and white pepper are some of the many aromas and flavors that take shape in the glass. As good as the 2010 is today, I imagine it will be even better in another few years' time. As I have written previously, the 2010 Dom Ruinart is one of the most impressive Champagnes ever made here. If there is anything better, I don't think I have tasted it!HK$9,415.00 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (98-100)
The 2023 Suduiraut (100% Sémillon) is a real stunner. Light on its feet yet wonderfully deep, the 2023 offers up a heady mix of tangerine oil, mint, white flowers, apricot and passion fruit. Readers will find a Sauternes that is more finesse than power. The 2023 is essentially a blend of three picks. The first was done at the end of September and accounted for 20% of the crop. The core of the vineyard, about 75%, was picked in a day ten window in October, following the September rains. A smaller third pick rounded out the harvest.HK$2,562.00 -

The Real Review (98)
Light bright yellow with a smoky, nutty, barrel fermented bouquet which also packs seaspray/oyster-shell, mixed spices and talcy aromas into the mix. In the mouth it's very intense and focused, tensioned and crisp, without strident acidity but lovely refreshing properties. A superb wine, quietly complex and penetrating, obviously barrel-fermented but not showing too-overt oak. The acidity is bright and refreshing and cleanses the aftertaste. Amazing length. Magical stuff.HK$3,170.00
