Malescot St Exupery 2009 (12x75cl)

Wine Spectator (97-100)

This is absolutely fabulous. I love the complex aromas of ripe fruit and fresh flowers that turn to mineral and raspberry, along with tannins on the finish. This changes all the time. Full-bodied and dense, but so beautiful and long. The layers of ultrafine tannins just turn off the tip of your tongue. Score range: 97-100 -JS

James Suckling (97-98)

The beauty in the fruit here is so impressive. Full body, super fine tannins. It’s very racy and incredibly long. Sexy and rich finish. Better than the legendary 2009? A blend of 70% cabernet savignon, 30% merlot

Wine of the vintage. Massive, with exuberant aromas of cassis, lead pencil and fruit which follow through on the palate. Full-bodied and incredibly velvety. Long, long finish. Try after 1998.--The Bordeaux 50. -JS

The Wine Cellar Insider (100)

Intoxicating scents of caramel, violets, smoke, licorice, plum and maraschino cherries take almost no time to find. Pure silk and velvet on the palate, the wine is seriously concentrated with an elegant, refined, fresh, tannic, rich, well defined, profile that has a lot more to say than it lets on for the moment. If I had to sum the wine up in a single word, compelling wold not do it justice. 5-10 years will add a lot to this already sublime wine.

Marquis d'Alesme 2016 (6x75cl)

Jeb Dunnuck (96)

Talk about a gem in the vintage, I was blown away by the 2016 Château Marquis d'Alesme Becker on each of the three times I was able to taste it. This estate has been on an undeniable roll since the arrival of Marjolaine de Conicnck in 2009, and the 2016 is unquestionably the best yet. A blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and the rest Cabernet Franc, brought up in 65% new French oak, its deep purple color is followed by an essence of Cabernet bouquet that includes loads of crème de cassis, blueberries, graphite, crushed rocks, sandalwood, and violets. Almost Saint Julien in style, this beauty is laser-focused on the palate, medium to full-bodied, brilliantly textured, and has a blockbuster finish. It deserves 4-5 years of bottle age and will keep for 25-30 years. Bravo!

Marquis d'Alesme 2018 (6x75cl)

Jeb Dunnuck (97)

A rock star Margaux that should be snatched up by readers, the 2018 Château Marquis D'Alesme reveals a dense purple hue as well as ripe, sexy notes of blackcurrants, spicy oak, tobacco leaf, earth, and cedar. Deep, full-bodied, and gorgeously concentrated, it has velvety tannins, a layered, mouthcoating texture, and a great finish. It's a baby, but wow, what a wine. Hide bottle for 5-7 years if you can (you'll be forgiven for opening a bottle early) and it's going to evolve for 30-40 years.

Palmer 2019 (6x75cl)

Decanter (98)

Iris and violet aromatics swirl out of the glass. In the mouth, things are velvet in texture and packed with concentrated cassis puree and blackberry fruit, gentle spice, soft charcoal and sappy tannins, with the whole thing just slowly slowly expanding and building through the palate, tightening its grip as it reaches the close of play. The Palmer signature of energy and precision is here in spades, and altogether the wine is both measured and elegant, with textbook floral Margaux character, while being extremely juicy, creamy and enjoyable, with a mouthwatering salinity on the finish - up there with the very best vintages of this estate. Low SO2, as has been the case for a few years now in line with biodynamic principles. Back to normal yield this year of (a very welcome I would imagine) 45hl/h. Harvest September 19 to October 19. 60% new oak, likely to be in barrels for the first year then large sized oak casks for the second year. 55% of overall production in the 1st wine.

Rauzan-Segla 2015 (6x75cl)

Jeb Dunnuck (98)

I underrated the 2015 Rauzan-Ségla on release. It’s a big, rich, incredibly sexy wine that’s certainly in the same ballpark as the 2016 (and 2018). Full-bodied, ripe, and concentrated, it has a wonderfully expansive, layered texture as well as an incredible sense of balance. Lots of cassis, leafy herbs, flowery incense, and tobacco notes all emerge from this beauty, which offers sweet tannins as well as a huge finish. This is magical stuff that’s going to keep for three decades or more.

Rauzan-Segla 2018 (6x75cl)

Jeb Dunnuck (99)

Reminding me of the 2016, the 2018 Château Rauzan-Segla reveals this beautifully fresh, complex bouquet that still has serious richness and depth. Based on 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, raised in 65% new barrels, it offers a dense purple hue to go with gorgeous notes of blackcurrants, spring flowers, cigar wrapper, and sandalwood. A quintessential Margaux with its spicy, complex, floral character, it's full-bodied and has a supple, elegant texture, no hard edges, a solid spine of acidity, and a great, great finish. This is a brilliant, heavenly 2018 to enjoy over the coming 30 years or more.
