Haut-Médoc
Haut-Médoc is a world-renowned wine region located on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, home to some of the most prestigious and sought-after wines in the world. The Haut-Médoc appellation covers a vast area of about 4,600 hectares, stretching from the outskirts of Bordeaux to the tip of the Médoc peninsula, and encompassing some of the most iconic appellations in Bordeaux, such as Margaux, Saint-Julien, Pauillac, and Saint-Estèphe. These actually account for the majority of the wines produced within the Haut-Médoc and have their own AOC. The more general title is used for vineyards lying outside these communes.
The wines of Haut-Médoc are known for their elegance, complexity, and aging potential, and are made predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc grapes. The terroir of Haut-Médoc is characterized by gravelly soils that provide excellent drainage and reflect the sunlight, producing grapes with intense flavors and aromas.
Whether you're a collector, a connoisseur, or simply a wine lover looking to sample some of the best value vinous delights, Haut-Médoc is the place to be.

James Suckling (94)A chewy, linear 2018 with very attractive blackberry, chocolate and wet-earth character. Some mushrooms, too. It’s full-bodied, very tight and tannic, yet polished and creamy-textured. Flavorful finish. Very typically Medoc. Needs three years to soften. Try after 2024. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (90)The 2020 Château de Lamarque has a tightly-wound bouquet with cedar-infused black fruit, touches of charred wood in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with nice sapidity, more compact than expected. Rather intense with fine tension towards the sapid finish. Give it time. |

Bordeaux | 10 | 85-87 (VN (NM)) | HK$1,205.00
Vinous - Neal Martin (85-87)The 2018 du Moulin Rouge fails to really lift off from the nose, coming across rather static compared to some of its peers. The palate is better, offering crisp black fruit, good acidity and a well-defined finish; in fact, it is so appealing that it makes the aromatics even more disappointing. I will seek to re-taste this once in bottle. |

Bordeaux | 10 | 89-91 (VN (NM)) | HK$1,140.00
Vinous - Neal Martin (89-91)The 2019 du Retout is inky purple in colour. The bouquet is clean and pure with blackberry tinged with graphite and black truffle, all nicely delineated and growing in intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with quite sharp tannins, compact and maybe leaner than some of its peers, though with satisfying persistence on the pencil lead infused finish. Fine. |

Bordeaux | 20 | 88-90 (VN (AG)) | HK$1,140.00
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (88-90)The 2020 Retout is a potent, brooding Haut-Médoc. Inky dark fruit, gravel, spice, chocolate and lavender lend quite a bit of aromatic complexity. Unctuous and deep, the Retout has quite a bit to offer, starting with its distinctive personality. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (90-92)The 2021 Château du Retout is quite backward on the nose, yet well-defined and clean, featuring brambly black fruit laced with cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with a bright entry, fine acidity, grainy tannins and pretty blackberry and graphite notes on the finish. Bravo. |

Bordeaux | 2 | 87 (WA) | HK$3,695.00
Wine Advocate (87)This well-respected cru bourgeois from proprietor Vialard has a tendency to be relatively tannic, which could be scary in a vintage like 2005, but this wine is dense, powerful and rich. It displays a still youthful dark plum/purple color, medium body, and lots of minerality and fruit. Forget it for another 3-4 years and drink it over the next decade. |

Wine Enthusiast (89)88-90 Solid, chunky wine, firmly tannic and tough. The weight of fruit is there to give promise for the future. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (90)The 2017 Cissac has a well defined bouquet with blackberry, cedar, brown spices and a touch of leather, some new oak (30%) needing a few months to fully integrate. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and good grip. A saline finish urges you back for another sip. This is a commendable Cissac that makes the most of the vintage. Recommended as it is often a great value. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (90)The 2019 Cissac has a nose of bright red berries nicely interwoven with hints of graphite and cedar, all very focused. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh and vibrant, with fine-grained tannins and gentle grip on the graphite-tinged finish. This is a very fine Cissac to enjoy over the next decade. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (89)The 2016 Citran has a classic tobacco-scented bouquet that is quite austere at first but opens up with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, not complex but offering fine salinity toward the finish, which just needs a little more mineralité and detail. |

Bordeaux | 1 | 91 (VN (NM)) | HK$1,850.00
Vinous - Neal Martin (91)The 2017 Citran has a powerful nose of black fruit laced with peppermint and light loamy aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and perhaps more refinement than suggested by the aromatics. As it coheres in the glass, this turns into a very fine Haut-Médoc that is probably punching above its weight. Very fine. |

Bordeaux | 1 | 89+ (VN (NM)) | HK$1,755.00
Vinous - Neal Martin (89+)The 2018 Citran has retained its well-defined, marine-influenced nose of black fruit infused with seaweed and oyster shells but is less diffuse than it was out of barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a little foursquare, perhaps, but fresh and showing more cohesion and complexity on the finish compared to some of its peers. Good show. And maybe it will improve further. |

Bordeaux | 8 | 90 (VN (AG)) | HK$1,955.00
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (90)The 2019 Citran has come together nicely in élevage. Succulent red cherry, mint, tobacco, licorice, rose petal, cinnamon and dried herbs all grace this expressive Haut-Médoc. Hints of cedar, menthol and spice linger. The 2019 is a bit rustic, but it offers plenty of character. |
