Pessac-Leognan
Located just south of Bordeaux, the Péssac-Léognan AOC is renowned for producing exceptional red and white wines. The area's unique terroir, characterized by gravelly soil, allows for excellent drainage and provides the perfect environment for the cultivation of the region's signature varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for reds and Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon for whites. Château Haut-Brion is amongst the most prestigious First Growth in this appellation. Other renowned wineries in the region include the Super Second Château La Mission Haut-Brion, and the fast ascending Château Smith Haut-Lafitte and Domaine de Chevalier, all of which are known for their exceptional red and white blends.

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94)The 2017 Lespault-Martillac is a gorgeous, understated wine, just as it was en primeur. Bright, floral and understated, the 2017 is impeccable from start to finish. Once again, the purity of the red-toned fruit is really compelling. The Lespault-Martillac is not obvious or overt wine, but instead it makes its case with a total sense of refinement. It is very clearly one of the wines of the vintage. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (92)The 2018 Lespault-Martillac is bright, punchy and full of character. I tasted the 2018 three times from barrel and never found it convincing. The bottled wine, on the other hand, is terrific. Inky red fruit, blood orange, spice, mint and rose petal all open with time. The 2018 is not super complex, but it is silky, well-balanced and very easy to enjoy. Best of all, readers can enjoy it with minimal cellaring. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (93)The 2019 Lespault-Martillac is plump, juicy and quite seductive. Sweet red cherry, rose petal, mint, spice, licorice, anise and citrus. The supple, creamy finish makes this a very pretty wine. This bold, punchy Pessac-Léognan is very easy to like. Tasted two times. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (91-93)The 2020 Lespault-Martillac is plump, juicy and wonderfully expressive. Ripe red cherry/red plum, orange zest cinnamon and crushed flowers fill out the layers in a succulent, vibrant Lespault that will drink well right out of the gate. The 2020 is a wine of total allure. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (90-92)The 2021 Lespault-Martillac is packed with inky red/purplish fruit, spice and mocha. There's more Cabernet Sauvignon than usual in this year's blend, and that comes through in the wine's aromatic profile. The 2021 is not super complex, but it is supremely delicious and very easy to like. |

Vinous - Ian D'Agata (91)Deep ruby-red. Sweet, sexy spice nuances complicate aromas of rich dark plum, cassis and minerals, with a violet topnote providing lift. Dense and suave in the mouth, showing noteworthy sweetness to the unctuous, almost syrupy black fruit and Oriental spice flavors. The finish is long and smooth, with harmonious, lively acidity nicely extending the fruit flavors at the back. There's no hint of green or tough tannins here at all. This very impressive wine, which has turned out much better than it showed during the Primeurs, should age very well. |

Wine Advocate (94)This large estate of 131 acres has been run brilliantly by a Belgian family, the Bonnies since their acquisition a number of years ago. The quality of the white and red have soared to exceptional heights, and this is certainly still one of the more realistically priced wines of Pessac-Lèognan and classified crus. The 2012 is a beauty, with a dense ruby/purple color, a fabulously plush, opulent texture and medium to full-bodied flavors of cassis, spicy earth and blueberry. Quite rich, yet light on its feet, this is an absolutely textbook Pessac-Lèognan, with wonderfully velvety tannins. Drink it now, or drink it in 25 years. This is a brilliant wine. |

Bordeaux | 2 | 94+ (VN (AG)) | HK$3,760.00 | |||||
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94+)The 2014 Malartic-Lagravière is a gorgeous wine, but it is also flamboyant and exotic, especially in its flavor profile. Super-ripe red cherry and plum make a strong first impression. Sweet floral and spice notes, along with ripe, silky tannins, add to the wine's sensuality. A rich, powerful wine with soft contours and striking depth, the 2014 is a real beauty. It will be even more compelling once the new oak tannins soften a bit further. The blend is 52 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 40 % Merlot, 5 % Cabernet Franc and 3 % Petit Verdot. Tasted two times. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (96+)The 2015 Malartic Lagravière is just as fabulous from bottle as it was from barrel. Rich, voluptuous and dramatic, it captures all of the natural intensity of the year. Black cherry, plum, mocha, chocolate, licorice and French oak build into a crescendo of stunning aromas, flavors and textures. This is in an especially dark, sumptuous style, but it all works beautifully. The 2015 was positively thrilling each of the three times I tasted it. |

James Suckling (96)I love the deep and complex nose, in which the cassis and mint of cabernet sauvignon are beautifully married to the more generous blackberry of ripe merlot and the vanilla and toasty notes from the oak are marvelously integrated. On the palate it creeps up on you slowly; the first impression is ripe yet delicate, then the fine-grained tannins charge through and light up the sky. Very long finish. Drink or hold. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (95)The 2018 Malartic Lagravière is every bit as compelling as it was en primeur. Inky dark fruit, dried herbs, licorice, lavender and chocolate are all kicked up in this sumptuous Pessac-Léognan. Soft curves and silky tannins add to the wine's considerable appeal. The 2018 is undeniably flashy and alluring, I loved it. |

Jeb Dunnuck (96)The 2019 Château Malartic-Lagravière showed brilliantly, with an elegant, pure, flawlessly balanced style. Giving up ripe black cherry, currants, tobacco leaf, and spicy oak, with textbook Graves scorched earth, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a beautiful layered, seamless mouthfeel, great tannins, and one heck of a great finish. It's not a blockbuster, but it excels on its elegance, balance, and complexity. Readers will love to have this in the cellar, and it will keep for 20+ years. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (95)The 2020 Malartic-Lagravière, which represents just 40% of the total production, was cropped at 26hL/ha. It has a very delineated nose with intense blackberry, raspberry, sous-bois and incense aromas that just "sing" of Pessac-Léognan. The palate is medium-bodied, finely-knit tannins, fresh and vibrant with beguiling purity. Harmonious and silky smooth, it belies the depth and complexity of this marvelous Malartic. This is superb and it will mature beautifully in bottle. |
