Pessac-Leognan
Located just south of Bordeaux, the Péssac-Léognan AOC is renowned for producing exceptional red and white wines. The area's unique terroir, characterized by gravelly soil, allows for excellent drainage and provides the perfect environment for the cultivation of the region's signature varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for reds and Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon for whites. Château Haut-Brion is amongst the most prestigious First Growth in this appellation. Other renowned wineries in the region include the Super Second Château La Mission Haut-Brion, and the fast ascending Château Smith Haut-Lafitte and Domaine de Chevalier, all of which are known for their exceptional red and white blends.

91-93 Barrel sample. Tasting through the initial tannins, this wine reveals ripe, blackberry jelly fruits. There is richness in the structure and density, perhaps less of the vintage's freshness.HK$2,775.00 -

The 2014 Olivier has an understated bouquet with cedar and tobacco scents, bay leaf and a hint of black tea. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, clean and pure, nicely integrated new oak with a touch of cedar and mint towards the finish. This is a well-crafted wine. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.HK$2,735.00 -

This estate is showing a further impressive leap in quality in this vintage. It is solid, dense with great concentrated blackberry fruits and superb acidity. Expect this wine to last many decades.HK$3,085.00 -
Decanter (92)
This is one of the more finessed and well expressed examples of powerful cassis and blackberry fruits in 2017. I love the sense of energy and juice that sits beneath the fruit - again, not something that you are seeing everywhere. A good job from Olivier, even if it hasn't quite reached the heights of 2015 and 2016. Very satisfying, and should develop nicely over next few years.HK$2,915.00 -

Very deep purple-black colored, the 2020 Olivier offers vibrant notions of wild blueberries, blackberry preserves and cassis, plus hints of clove oil, cinnamon stick and tree bark, with a waft of dusty soil. The medium-bodied palate is elegantly played with soft tannins and seamless freshness supporting the restrained black and blue fruit flavors, finishing earthy.HK$2,640.00 -

Lovely nose of sour cherry, caramel, roses and blackcurrants; so expressive. Dense and chewy fruit on the palate - this has a succulence and sweet softness which is appealing. It's lightly framed, not dense or weighty but has excellent clarity and precision: clear, linear with tension and drive. It's focused and all in one stream right now but I love the juiciness, the texture and the minerality. Will be good to see how the ageing expands the palate. A clear Pessac success in the vintage.HK$2,905.00 -

Black cherries, smoked earth, leather, and graphite all emerge from the 2022 Château Olivier, a concentrated, rich, medium to full-bodied 2022 that has building tannins, solid mid-palate depth and richness, and a great finish. Give it a few years for the tannins to round into form, and this beauty will cruise over the following 15-20 years.HK$1,900.00 -

Vinous - Ian D'Agata (87-90)
Pale straw yellow. Subdued aromas and flavors of fresh citrus fruit, underripe apricot, vanilla and sage, plus a complicating saline nuance. Finishes moderately persistent, with a slightly diffuse quality. This will need to put on weight and gain in complexity to warrant a higher rating, but it's certainly clean and precise.HK$1,545.00 -

The 2014 Olivier Blanc has retained that attractive mineral-drenched bouquet that I enjoyed so much out of barrel: fine delineation and a sense of energy bursting from the glass. The palate is very fresh on the entry with lime cordial, kiwi fruit and a touch of lemongrass, less shrill than it showed at primeur but with an engaging, lip-smacking salinité on the persistent finish. Excellent white Pessac-Léognan.HK$2,525.00 -

The 2015 Olivier Blanc has a fragrant bouquet of fresh pear, red apple and light lanolin aromas soaring from the glass. The palate is very appley on the entry: Granny Smith apples and a touch of pear segue into a ginger-tinged second half that fans out nicely. Lacks a little sophistication but is well-crafted. One of the better white Oliviers that I have tasted in recent years. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.HK$2,745.00 -

As with its red, the white wine from this chateau continues to improve. Balanced and ripe, with bright, forward fruit, this wine has so much freshness while at the same time fruity generosity. With notes of spice, a pleasant mineral texture and final burst of acidity, this is a wine for aging.HK$2,915.00 -
Decanter (95)
Gentle minerality on the nose delivers a gorgeous white peach character that slowly builds. It effortlessly replaces one sensation with the next, just building ever so slowly in power and juice, and pulsates through. Those aromatics are a little subtle at first, but it doesn't take long in the glass for them to come out: sage and soft white flowers, then a slam of citrus and luscious nectarine. One of the whites of the vintage. 35% new oak.HK$2,745.00
