The 2020 Château de Sales has a little greenness on the nose, but it’s fresh with attractive black currant fruit. You’d just think it came from a much cooler growing season. The medium-bodied palate offers dry tannins, touches of leathery black fruit and a slightly bitter finish. Hopefully this will gain more cohesion during barrel aging.HK$1,215.00 -

The 2020 Le Boscq still has that expressive, overtly floral bouquet with bunches of pressed violet infusing the black cherry and boysenberry fruit. Quite powerful and seductive. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, touches of black olive, fine depth with a slightly chewy finish that would benefit from a little more delineation and finesse. But I like this sturdy Saint-Estèphe and it should cellar well for a decade.HK$1,500.00 -

The 2020 Le Pape was picked September 9–15. It is initially tight on the nose and only opens about an hour after opening (I spent the time chatting to Véronique Sanders via Zoom) to offer blackberry and wild hedgerow intermixed with light incense and pressed iris scents, all very well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, beautifully balanced and very harmonious. There is a tincture of white pepper sprinkled over the finish that veers toward more red fruit in its final few bars. Excellent.HK$1,205.00 -

The 2020 Le Thil is a gorgeous, enticing Merlot-based Pessac-Léognan from team at Smith Haut-Lafitte. The 2020 Les Grands Chênes is terrific, just as it was en primeur. Blackberry jam, gravel, incense, tobacco, scorched earth and espresso saturate the palate with remarkable depth. This deep, flavorful Médoc is a tremendous effort from Bernard Magrez and his team. My only complaint is the absurdly heavy bottle, which is completely out of touch with today's world.HK$1,415.00 -
