The 2017 Clos La Madeleine is bold and racy in the glass. Super-ripe red cherry and plum fruit give the 2017 a real sense of lusciousness. Sweet tobacco, cedar, mint, dried flowers, herbs and small red berries develop later, adding lovely shades of intrigue. Clos La Madeleine is an especially ripe Saint-Émilion, just as it was en primeur, but it is also succulent, silky and incredibly delicious for what it is: a juicy Saint-Émilion to enjoy over the next decade or so with no pretense.HK$3,655.00 -

Coming from the Moueix team, the 2018 Clos La Madeleine checks in as 76% Merlot and 24% Cabernet Franc from a tiny vineyard (2.3 hectares) on the hillsides of Saint-Emilion, near Belair-Monange. This vineyard was purchased by the Moueix family in 2017, and the 2018 saw malolactic fermentation in barrel and was raised in 40% new French oak. It has classic Saint-Emilion minerality as well as a great nose of blackcurrants, black cherries, chocolate, crushed stone, and graphite. This carries to a powerful, medium to full-bodied 2018 with chalky tannins, terrific mid-palate depth, and a juicy, lively, complex style that keeps you coming back to the glass. Give it a few years and enjoy over the following 15-20 years. It's the finest vintage of this cuvée I've tasted, and I expect the best is still to come.HK$4,275.00 -

(80% merlot and 10% each cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon): Fresh red-ruby color. Cassis, blackberry, plum and a whiff of herbs on the nose. Clos Lunelles is Gérard and Chantal Perse's Côtes de Castillon. Dark, round and fleshy, the 2012 boasts gorgeous depth. Plum, blackberry jam, crème de cassis and mint are all knit together nicely. The tannins could use a touch more polish, but otherwise, this is a fine effort.HK$3,745.00 -

A wine that just screams limestone, the 2021 Clos Lunelles has vivid ruby/purple hue as well as brilliant notes of black raspberries, cassis, white flowers, chalky minerality, and graphite. It's medium-bodied, has a layered, ripe mouthfeel, plenty of tannins, and outstanding length. Give it just a few years and enjoy over the following decade. Wine Advocate (93+)
From ancient and predominantly ungrafted vines, Clos Manou's 2021 Cuvée 1850 Vignes Prephylloxeriques was matured in equal parts new oak and glass wine globes. Unwinding in the glass with notes of minty berries, violets, rose petals and lilac, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a layered and concentrated mid-palate, ripe tannins and lively acids, concluding with a long, pure finish. In a blind tasting, this could cause serious problems for more than a few top-classified growths, but that's hardly surprising when one has seen Dief's impeccable vineyard work and spotlessly maintained winery.HK$3,695.00 -
(6x75cl) 2019Wine Advocate (92+)
From an 18-hectare estate planted at a density of around 10,000 vines per hectare, the 2019 Clos Manou is a serious wine. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berry fruit, cigar wrapper, licorice and espresso roast, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with terrific concentration, lively acids and plenty of ripe, powdery tannin that will reward a bit of bottle age. It's closed with an Ardeaseal technical cork as used by Burgundy's Domaine Ponsot among others. This estate merits a mention in any list of Bordeaux's finest under-the-radar producers.HK$1,175.00 -

The 2020 Clos Manou, one-third aged in concrete, has closed down a little after bottle, yet still, it has a gorgeous bouquet with red berry fruit, blood orange and subtle sous-bois aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with tannins that have firmed up since I tasted this from barrel - rendering a more "serious" Médoc that will require a little more aging than I estimated. Very fine.HK$2,135.00 -

The 2021 Clos Manou is supple, racy and super-expressive. A burst of red/purplish fruit, rose petal, mint, spice and lavender lend quite a bit of up front intensity. Clos Manou is beautifully done in 2021. It is sure to find many fans.HK$1,565.00 -

The 2022 Clos Manou has a well-defined and succinct bouquet with blackberry, wild hedgerow, blue fruit and crushed stone aromas unfurling with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied, detailed and very harmonious, with seamlessly integrated oak, a fluidity that marks this out and exquisite mineralité on the finish. This is brilliant.HK$2,110.00 -

The 2015 Clos Marsalette is rich, powerful and authoritative, just as it was from barrel. Black cherry, smoke, rose petal, menthol, licorice and savory herbs fill out the wine's ample frame effortlessly, but there is good energy to back things up. Time in the glass brings out the 2015's aromatic dimension. Clos Marsalette is arguably the most extroverted, flamboyant wine in Pessac-Léognan. Tasted two times.HK$2,880.00 -

The 2017 Clos Marsalette is ripe, bold and juicy, with quite a bit of raciness and more overt ripeness than I remember seeing en primeur. At the same time, there is plenty of floral and savory lift from the Cabernets. Sweet red plum, mint, sage, tobacco and cedar are all laced together in this super-expressive, inviting, mid-weight Pessac-Léognan Graves from Stephan von Neipperg. This is such a pretty wine.
