Decanter (93)
Succulent and softly supple, this has lots of energy and pace with bright red fruits, raspberries and cherries, alongside sweet spices and perfumed nuances. The acidity is so well judged it lifts the palate and delivers the individual elements with precision and poise, so you get a playful, friendly and upfront wine offering so much pleasure. I love the clarity here too, the sheer chalky and saline texture on the tongue; it feels clean and clear with a pristine quality. This will be a fabulous wine! 2% Petit Verdot completes the blend. 3.72pH. The first vintage to be vinified in the new winery which was completed just in time for the harvest.HK$1,985.00 -

The Wine Independent (93-95)
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 d'Armailhac sings of black raspberries, wild strawberries, and tilled soil with hints of dried herbs and wet slate. The medium-bodied palate is lively and elegantly styled, with plush tannins supporting delicate red and black fruit layers, culminating in a well-sustained finish. Very impressive! The blend is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon (the highest ever percentage for d'Armailhac), 15% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, with pH 3.75. The alcohol is 13.5%.HK$1,904 - HK$2,261

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (90)
A major sleeper in this vintage, the 2015 d'Arsac is superb. Hints to savory herb, flowers tobacco and mint meld into a core of sumptuous dark red fruit. This bold Margaux Cru Bourgeois is a serious overachiever and flat out delicious. The 2015 is 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon.HK$2,185.00 -

The 2018 Château d’Arsac has an attractive bouquet of blackberry, cassis and light violet aromas, understated at first but opening with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with graphite-tinged black fruit, taut and focused, not powerful or voluminous yet full of tension and precision on the finish. Very fine.HK$2,245.00 -

The 2019 d'Arsac has a very Margaux-like bouquet with crushed violet and potpourri bursting from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with very lithe tannins, well judged acidity, tobacco and minty notes infusing the black fruit towards the finish. Probably early drinking but nicely made.HK$2,235.00 -

The 2020 Château d'Arsac has a well-defined, quite elegant nose, perfumed blackberry and bilberry fruit, crushed iris petal and light cedar scents. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit and fine structure. Not a powerful 2020 with just a slight tinniness on the finish. Give this a couple of years in bottle, and this Margaux Cru Bourgeois will turn out fine.HK$1,415.00 -

(12x75cl) 1996Wine Spectator (90)
Plenty of blackberry, currant and cherry character. Medium- to full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, fruity aftertaste. A mellow and well-defined '96. One of the best Issans in ages. Best after 2000. 10,000 cases made.HK$10,620.00 -
(1x75cl) 2001James Suckling (93)
This has a lot of tobacco character that is slightly green with an animal and spice undertone on both the nose and palate. It starts off a little green on the palate, but then goes gamey and spicy. Needs to be decanted two hours before serving. Truffles and porcini come out with air. It's full bodied, with round tannins and a long finish. This lovely claret really grows on you.HK$615.00 -

The more serious grand vin twin, the 2005 d’Issan, has a stunning nose of spring flowers, blackcurrant and blue/black fruits galore, and an impressively opaque dark plum/purple color. With a rich, concentrated and pure mouthfeel, wonderfully sweet tannin, full-bodied density and richness, but elegance in abundance, this is a stunner, and one of the great Margaux of the vintage. Drink it now and over the next 20 years.HK$10,150.00 -

With its high wood flavors and aromas of mint, this sets out to be a modern, extracted style of wine. But it has the lightness of Margaux in 2007, the Cabernet tannins soft and open. It already has good balance, suggesting it is not for long aging.HK$1,010.00 -

Exhibiting beautifully ripe currants, truffle, leather, and some floral notes, the 2010 Château D'Issan is medium to full-bodied, flawlessly balanced, and has a juicy, elegant, classy style with so much to love. Still young but clearly in its prime drinking window, it has another two decades of longevity ahead of it. Drink 2025-2045.HK$8,835.00 -

Wine Advocate (95)
The 2012 Château d’Issan, builds on the richness of the second wine and adds more body, structure and density. It has an inky purple color and a stunning nose of spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry fruit as well as touches of incense and graphite. Medium to full-bodied and stunningly concentrated, this 2012 is a great success in the vintage, one of the superstars. Moreover, its precociousness suggests it could be drunk in the next 4-5 years or cellared through 2025. I underrated this wine dramatically in my report of April, 2013 (Issue 206).HK$4,800.00 -

You are immediately captured by the aromatics of this wine, such gorgeous complexity on display, layers of fern, heather, sage, white pepper, gun smoke. Taut tannins still at 6 years old, with nuanced, balanced, juicy and powerful cassis and bilberry fruits. No need to rush because this will age, but there is so much to enjoy here.HK$5,940.00 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (95+)
The 2015 d'Issan is a total knock-out. Spectacularly ripe and intense, the 2015 exudes richness in all of its dimensions. Super-ripe dark plum, lavender, spice, savory herbs, iron, smoke and new leather add myriad shades of nuance to this super-ripe, decidedly hedonistic Margaux. A powerful, dense wine, the 2015 is going to need a number of years before it is close to being ready to drink. I was quite impressed with d'Issan both times I tasted it. The 2015 has really come along nicely. The blend is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot, aged in 50% new oak. Eric Boissenot consults.HK$5,635.00
