Vinous - Neal Martin (95)The 2016 Guiraud has a very attractive, complex bouquet of lemon curd, orange blossom and light lanolin aromas that gently unfold in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with a spicy opening. This feels concentrated and harmonious, delivering good grip and a tangy marmalade-driven finish that begs you back for another sip. Excellent. Jeb Dunnuck (96)The 2022 Château Guiraud is beautiful, with the ripe, powerful style of the vintage. Honeyed orange, white flowers, peach, and some minty nuances all shine here, and this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a lush, layered, seamless mouthfeel, and a good sense of freshness that keeps it light on its feet. It's a brilliant Sauternes to drink over the coming two decades or so. The blend is 65% Semillon and 35% Sauvignon, raised in barrels. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (93)The 2015 Haut-Bages Libéral is one of the best releases in recent years. It has an elegant bouquet of refined black cherry and crushed strawberry aromas; the oak here is very well knitted. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, grainy tannin, layers of black fruit laced with tar and tobacco, and firm but not overbearing grip on the finish. Good aging potential here. Excellent. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (95)The 2016 Haut-Bages Libéral has turned out beautifully. Rose petals, lavender and sweet red cherry are some of the notes that grace this fine, translucent Pauillac. Medium in body and precise, with exquisite finesse and nuance, the 2016 is incredibly expressive today. This is a fabulous showing from proprietor Claire Villars Lurton. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94-96)The 2021 Haut-Bages Libéral is one of the best wines I have ever tasted from Claire Lurton. Dense, powerful and explosive, with dazzling intensity Haut-Bages Libéral races across the palate, offering up an enticing mélange of ripe red-fleshed fruit, blood orange, cedar and spice. Bright acids lend vibrancy throughout a Pauillac I won't soon forget tasting. Haut-Bages Libéral is one of my early favorites on the Left Bank in 2021. Yields were 30 hectoliters per hectare versus the more typical 40 or so, not a bad result at all for the year given the biodynamic farming practices in place. |
