The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. There is plenty of lightly spiced black fruit, gentle grip, an appealing sense of symmetry and a longer tail on the finish than the Les Haut Doix. Vinous (93+)The 2011 Bonnes Mares needs time to fully come together. Today the whole clusters (80%) are a bit prominent. Savory herbs, tobacco, incense and orange peel all add layers of complexity to the dark fruit in a powerful, intense Burgundy that captures the essence of this site, albeit in a more medium-bodied style than is normal for this wine, but that is very much in line with the year. The 2011 is going to need at least another few years to be fully expressive. There is plenty of tannin and acidity to ensure years of fine drinking. |

Communicates wonderful ripeness and detail without any impression of heaviness or weight. Really superb energy here, no doubt partly due to the vinification with 80% whole clusters. Most impressive today on the very long, fine-grained finish, where the savory red fruit and blackberry flavors build slowly and linger long. This should be long-lived. |

Knockout nose offers kaleidoscopic scents of raspberry, blood orange, crushed rock and pepper complicated by torrefaction notes of cocoa and mocha and lifted by lilac and rose petal. Incredibly silky on entry, then expands and builds in the middle palate, with an element of noble vegetility adding another dimension to the flavors of fruits, flowers and stone. Superb acidity here, which Pierre Vincent says is due to the concentration of all of the wine's elements. Finishes with outstanding peppery energy and lift: one of the longest wines of my November tour and nearly impossible to spit. There are just three barrels of this elixir: one new, one one year old and one two years old. Built for a long life in bottle. |

Starts discreetly then swells on the palate. The wine is entirely harmonious with perfectly integrated light touch of acidity. It is very far from being massive but it is a beauty nonetheless. |

Towards the north of the Cote de Nuits, the chalky soils found in Chambolle Musigny can be credited for the signature elegance of these renowned wines. Although they might be lighter in colour and tannins, red wine from Chambolle does not lack for the purity and intensity of its fruit. The pinnacle of all of these qualities can be certainly be found in the two Grand Cru vineyards located in Chambolle, Musigny and Bonnes Mares.
