Cask sample. Very rich and concentrated on the nose. Big and muscular at first but actually with real tautness and acidity on the end – almost unexpectedly! Not the most thrilling example from this appellation I have been lucky enough to taste but it’s certainly an attempt to give it tension. Almost too much so!HK$21,945.00 -

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93)
Slightly the deepest in colour and the richest nose of the four premier crus. Some lemon notes and light plum, then white fruit. This has the most assured texture of the four. Good grip, as Clive Coates would have said, stretching out very nicely in a fine long finish.HK$5,275.00 -
Vinous (88-90)
The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Les Charmes has a fragrant bouquet with apricot, candle wax and light saffron aromas that are already very seductive. The palate is well balanced with good weight, though oddly I find a little more elegance on the Puligny Village comparing the two side-by-side. Hopefully it will gain a little more complexity once in bottle.HK$1,070.00 -

Fullish yellow. The complex nose shows the power of the vintage, a few drier tannins behind, fair acidity. I think the Clos character is there, but it is reticent today. The palate does deliver detail and layers of fruit though. The finish does also suggest the necessary class. Really good length here.HK$1,565.00 -

Moutonne is one of Chablis' finest expressions and the 2019 will be another in a long list of memorable vintages. Although not the final bottling, it is clear that there is great power here, combined with finesse and a lightness on its feet. Savoury, umami, notes on the finish. Wood is a little evident now but will integrate beautifully once in bottle for 6-12 months. A lovely example, both powerful and restrained.HK$6,935.00 -

The 2019 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru has a little more depth and intensity compared to the Sur Gamay: green apples and wet limestone aromas unfolding nicely. The palate is very composed and harmonious, pretty, touches of blackcurrant leaf infusing the green apple notes that dovetail into peachy/grapefruit notes towards the concise finish. Very fine.HK$1,415.00 -

Vinous (90-92)
The 2019 Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru comes from a single block of a half-hectare parcel of vines planted in the 1950s and young vines planted in 2009. It has a pleasant bouquet with apple blossom and honeysuckle aromas emerging from the glass. I would like to see more terroir expression here. The palate is nicely balanced, the spicy entry (lemongrass and ginger) leading to a weighty, concentrated, powerful finish that lacquers the mouth. Give this three or four years once in bottle. [Tasted twice, once at the Domaine and then in the UK.]HK$5,195.00 -

Sulfited the week prior to my visit, the 2019 Meursault Poruzots 1er Cru nevertheless showed impressive clarity on the nose of honeysuckle, lemon thyme and walnut aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a sappy entry, a fine bead of acidity and a little more precision than the Meursault-Blagny by direct comparison. Likewise, it will require some bottle maturation, but there is good potential here.HK$8,515.00 -
Vinous (93-95)
The 2019 Meursault Charmes 1er Cru is well defined and crisp on the nose of yellow plum mixed with honeysuckle and hazelnut, more Meursault character coming though compared to the Poruzots at the moment. The palate is fresh and focused, very expressive, with some gorgeous orange pith and peach skin notes coming through on the finish, flanked by hazelnut and grilled walnut. Excellent.HK$1,765.00 -

Two plots in Perrières-Dessous, old vines, which still deliver well. Mulched to avoid ploughing. 30% new wood. Pale colour with a little yellow. While not expressing the detail, the bouquet demonstrates the characteristic and necessary weight of fruit. The body fleshes out further on the palate. This is an excellent example and held up by a very good thread of acidity. There is a fine length of flavour too, very promising.HK$7,670.00 -
