Vinous (88)
The 2015 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a primal, simple bouquet that struggles to get past the honeyed fruit, the aromatics overwhelmed by the growing season. The palate is slightly honeyed on the entry with notes of mango, passion fruit and a touch of spice, suggesting that there might have been some botrytis in the vineyard. This is not unattractive but falls short of other Corton-Charlemagnes of this vintage. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (DIAM 30 closure)HK$6,880.00 -

The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a light, fresh bouquet with pressed white flowers, white linen and light peachy aromas. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, quite taut for a Corton-Charlemagne, certainly one of the better Bichot whites with more mineralité on the finish. This should age well. The 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru comes from the Pernot family, from vines situated on the Pernand side. This is very aromatic and complex on the nose, with white flowers infusing yellow fruit, hints of brioche and grilled almond. The palate is very well balanced with wonderful poise, a citric thread of acidity and attractive salinity. This is one of the best Corton-Charlemagne wines that I tasted during my weeks in Burgundy. It is far superior to the 2022.HK$6,450.00 -

There is a hint of exoticism to the cool and admirably pure citrus, pear and green apple suffused nose that is presently trimmed in a noticeable, if very slight, touch of reduction. The rich and extremely fresh middle weight plus flavors possess an impressive amount of dry extract as well as ample mineral influence on the austere and ultra-pure finish that seems to go on and on. This powerful and impeccably well-balanced effort is still very much on the way up and will need another 5 to 7 years before it reaches its full apogee. The 2010 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru offers an enticing array of marine scents on the nose: cockle shells and estuarine aromas.
