The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Aux Beaux Bruns 1er Cru has a deeper, richer, more tertiary nose than the preceding Aux Combottes. Touches of brown spice emerge with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip, good structure and complexity. This is a little sauvage and savory toward the lingering finish. Bright, dark red; a bit less saturated than the Beaux-Bruns. Tight nose offers aromas of black fruits, menthol, licorice and black pepper, plus a piquant suggestion of blood orange. A bit more herbal and much more dominated by its structure than the Beaux-Bruns, showing a very primary quality as well as good saline minerality. Distinctly clenched today and showing little sweetness but there's very good energy and intensity here. Finishes with a firm spine of tannins and a slight dry edge. This is tough to judge today and clearly in an awkward phase of its evolution in barrel.HK$17,040.00 -

Bright red-ruby. Subtly perfumed, very complex aromas of raspberry, strawberry, minerals, red licorice and exotic hints of apricot and grapefruit. The biggest and sweetest of these '96s; really lush and full, combining superb lingering sweetness with a large structure. The even tannins are thoroughly enrobed by thick, sappy red fruit. Ghislaine Barthod's two parcels of Charmes are both in the more southerly part of the premier cru and can make one of the more reticent wines in her line up. That's far from the case here though, as this is all about rose petal and summer berry aromas with bright, vivacious acidity, subtle 30% new oak integration and a sweet, lingering finish.HK$33,645.00 -

One of the more dramatic, gourmand cuvées in the range is the 2019 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes, a stunning wine that bursts with aromas of mulberries, raspberries, violets and rose petals, complemented by hints of loamy soil and baking chocolate. A light ruby purple. The bouquet is immediate and very seductive, doing its Charmes thing. Roses and red fruit, especially strawberry. The Chambolle-Musigny Les Chatelots is big, rich and explosive. Here the fruit is dark in tone, with sweet, balsamic inflected notes that add complexity. Very good deep, bright red. Highly aromatic if slightly reduced nose offers crushed fresh raspberry, pepper, herbs, minerals and a hint of oak. Very rich, peppery and dry on the palate, with noteworthy energy and elegance. The finish begins rather austere but then broadens out impressively. This very young wine finishes with big, ripe tannins and terrific saline persistence. Some day this will be magnificent at the dinner table. Another well sited premier cru, at the same altitude as Bonnes Mares, Ghislaine Barthod's parcel runs to 0.82ha and is one of the bigger cuvées in her cellar.
