Burgundy
When it comes to the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands tall as one of the most revered and sought-after regions. Renowned for its exceptional terroir and commitment to quality, Burgundy has long captivated enthusiasts with its exquisite and highly prized wines. Today, let us delve into the realm of the best and most expensive wines that Burgundy has to offer, a realm where true wine aficionados can indulge in the pinnacle of winemaking excellence.
At the heart of Burgundy's prestige lie its renowned vineyards, which have garnered global acclaim for their exceptional wines. The names that resonate in the world of Burgundy are Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, Domaine Armand Rousseau, and Domaine Georges Roumier. These vineyards have become synonymous with greatness, crafting wines that define elegance, complexity, and longevity.
Burgundy's most esteemed wines are crafted from two noble grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The region's red wines, made predominantly from Pinot Noir, display a finesse and purity of fruit that are unmatched. Vineyards such as Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, and Richebourg produce red wines that command astronomical prices due to their exceptional quality and limited production.
For white wine enthusiasts, Burgundy's Chardonnay-based wines are a true revelation. Vineyards like Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, and Meursault showcase the full potential of this noble grape, producing wines of unparalleled richness, depth, and complexity. These whites epitomize the artistry of winemaking, with each sip revealing layers of flavors and a harmonious balance between fruit, minerality, and oak.
In the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands as an epitome of elegance, complexity, and refined craftsmanship. Its best and most expensive wines are a testament to the region's unwavering commitment to excellence, terroir-driven winemaking, and the artistry of the winemakers.

Vinous (95-97)
The 2020 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru, which comes from purchased fruit, has a little more complexity than the Charmes-Chambertin, perhaps a touch more mineralité and florality. The palate is very well balanced with a sensual texture, beautifully balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Gentle grip towards the finish, I admire this fans out and makes an impression. Classy.HK$12,125.00 -

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)
5 Star Wine. Dense black purple, while the nose is completely stunning from the first sniff. Grand cru territory for me. Perfectly on the cusp of red and black fruit, an explosion on the palate, now slightly darker in fruit, and with a little interior pepperiness, succulent and spicy at the same time, and very long.HK$3,990.00 -

Wine Advocate (90-92)
A cuvée that's purchased as wine for Lignier's négociant business, the 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos Baulet (négoce) offers up aromas of cherries, sweet berries, licorice and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, lively and charming, with tangy acids, powdery tannins and a saline finish, it's a fine complement to the range.HK$3,950.00 -

(100% destemmed; La Riotte is adjacent to Les Blanchards but these vines are on more of a slope, and the mostly clay soil also features some rocky calcaire): Healthy medium red. More complex on the nose than the Blanchards, with raspberry and musky coffee aromas complemented by sexy soil tones and a floral element. Less fat and dense than the Blanchards, but its sappy raspberry fruit shows lovely mineral tension. Finishes precise, cool and long.HK$1,215.00 -

Vinous (90-92)
The 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis La Riotte 1er Cru has a tender bouquet with red berry fruit, crushed limestone and rose petal aromas, more Chambolle-like than Morey. The palate is quite rich and generous, nicely structured, sweet towards the finish that manages to disguise the 14.7° alcohol. If you desire one of Domaine Hubert Lignier’s more heady 2019s then this is the place to come.HK$7,495.00 -
(3x150cl) 2020Wine Advocate (92-94)
The 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru La Riotte opens in the glass with aromas of cherries, warm spices, wild berries, peonies and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, rich and velvety, with lively acids and melting tannins, it concludes with a long, saline finish.HK$5,430.00 -

Wine Advocate (92)
The 2008 Morey St.-Denis Les Chaffots is a sexy, powerful wine. This is a beautifully intense Morey layered with exquisite fruit. The tension between the fruit and the tannins keeps things interesting as the wine turns a bit dark on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028.HK$1,765.00 -
Vinous (92+)
Healthy medium red. Reduced aromas of raspberry, smoke, brown spices and dried flowers. Rich, dense and harmonious, showing a lovely sugar/acid balance and noteworthy mineral-driven energy. Finishes firm, chewy and long, with a complicating saline quality. This is 13.2% alcohol without chaptalization, according to Laurent Lignier.HK$1,365.00 -
Vinous (93-95)
The 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Chaffots 1er Cru has (another) very well defined bouquet with redcurrant, cranberry and sous-bois aromas, a little stemminess in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, impressive depth, but what underpins this premier cru is the freshness and tension on the finish. It should age with style. Superb.HK$6,735.00 -
