I very much like the texture of the delicious medium-bodied flavors that, even if not especially dense, still possess good power and minerality while delivering excellent depth and length on the balanced bitter pit fruit finish that really fans out as it sits on the palate. 5 Star Wine. Ruby purple, with a fine concentration of dark red fruit picked at optimum ripeness. The whole bunches (90%) give a further lift to the nose, while what starts well in bouquet really gains ground on the palate. Everything is perfectly in place, a really striking Clos de la Roche with a suave middle ground and long, perfectly balanced finish. As always, this is a vineyard built for ageing. Making me smile! And the best news – there are 13 barrels! Drink from 2033-2045. Tasted Nov 2024.

It has a bright, open, peppermint tinged bouquet that does not quite deliver the precision and complexity of the Faconnières. The palate is very well balanced with fine mineralité and the most terroir expressive of Lignier’s cuvées. Wonderful precision on the finish. If the aromatics step up a gear this will vie with the Faconnières as Lignier’s best Premier Cru.

The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well-judged acidity that imbues this premier cru with heightened harmony and focus. A background hint of reduction isn’t enough to overshadow the notes of liqueur-like dark berries, violet, spice and a subtle application of wood. There is fine volume, power and a taut muscularity to the mineral-driven larger-scaled flavors that aren’t quite as refined on the bitter pit fruit-inflected finish that is firm, balanced, long and youthfully austere. Patience absolutely necessary but if you have at least some, by all means consider this as well.
