In Provence, the birthplace of French rosé, vineyards such as Château d'Esclans, Domaines Ott, and Château Miraval craft some of the most sought-after rosé wines in the world. These vineyards are revered for their commitment to quality and their ability to capture the essence of Provence in each bottle. The NV Extra Brut Rosé de Saignée Les Maillons (2016 base) is fabulous. Rich and expansive, with soaring aromatics, the Maillons is a drop-dead gorgeous beauty. The purity and intensity of the Pinot is so striking. Rich and dense, yet also wonderfully gracious, the Maillons is a total knock-out. It is a wine with tremendous personality and character. I loved it. Disgorged: March 1, 2020.HK$5,075.00 -

The NV Brut Rosé is gorgeous. Bright and energetic, with tons of underlying energy, the Rosé is stellar and also a highlight in this lineup. Lifted aromatics and sculpted fruit add character to this airy, gracious Champagne. The Varnier-Fannière Rosé is built on the Brut Grand Cru, with 20% still red Pinot. The 10 grams of dosage works quite well here. Disgorged: October 18, 2017.HK$3,020.00 -

The 2008 La Grande Dame Rosé is a very pretty wine. Not surprisingly, the 2008 is starting to show signs of age, not in a negative way per se, but there is also little doubt that time seems to bring out the natural vinous intensity and gamey character of Pinot Noir. The 2008 is like a teenager going through adolescence. I had had the privilege of tasting La Grande Dame Rosé going back many decades. Those experiences left me with the strong impression that the Rosé is best enjoyed either relatively young or quite old, as the wine can be something of a moving target in between those two distinct phases.HK$14,950.00 -

The intensely-hued NV Extra Brut Rosé Les Monts de Vertus is impressive and quite delicious. Ample and inviting on the palate, the Monts de Vertus possesses notable depth. Dark cherry, kirsch, blood orange and cinnamon all meld together. All the elements fall into place effortlessly with this 100% Pinot Noir done in the saignée style. The combination of intense fruit and low dosage is quite simply beguiling. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. Disgorged: January, 2023.HK$3,790.00 -

A classy, understated wine, the 2010 Grand Cellier Rubis offers striking depth and nuance. Now, nearly two and half years after its disgorgement, the 2010 is just starting to open up aromatically. The Rubis is deceptively medium in body, yet it possesses notable drive. There is plenty of depth in the glass, but it is more implied than overtly stated. The Rubis is 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. Dosage is 8 grams per liter. Disgorged November, 2014.HK$1,195.00 -

The 2013 Brut Rosé Emotion is more interesting than the 2014 tasted alongside it, as it has more depth and overall textural presence. Here, too, I find the fruit a bit faded, while the oak imprint is unusually strong. The blend is 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. Disgorged: April, 2020.HK$7,240.00 -
