The 2009 Barbaresco Bric Turot is rich, broad and expressive. Dark cherry, tobacco, underbrush, licorice, menthol and savory herbs notes all blossom in a large-scaled Barbaresco with tons of sheer appeal. The Nebbiolo tannins are present, but they are nearly buried by the depth of the fruit.HK$2,555.00 -

The 2019 Barbaresco Bric Turot is the deepest and most potent of the three Barbarescos in the Prunotto range. Black cherry, graphite, spice, leather, menthol and smoke add to an impression of gravitas. The 2019 needs time to soften.HK$2,470.00 -

This wine sources its fruit exclusively from a five-hectare site with local Tortoniano soils that are rich in magnesium and manganese with a bluish hue. The Prunotto 2021 Barbaresco Bric Turot (with 26,000 bottles made) shows an expressive savory side that to my tastes translates as more roots than flowers. Dark fruit is followed by tilled earth, petrichor and toasted almond husk. This is a keeper, but for near and medium-term drinking, I would go with the village Barbaresco.HK$2,055.00 -

The 2021 Barolo is a very pretty entry-level offering from Prunotto. Dried cherry, cedar, pipe tobacco and orange peel lend lovely aromatic presence to match the Barolo's mid-weight personality. I would not wait too long on the 2021, as it is already quite open.HK$1,755.00 -

Woodland berry, rose, camphor and a whiff of tobacco shape the fragrant nose. It's focused and elegantly structured, presenting juicy Marasca cherry, orange zest, licorice and clove set against bright acidity and taut, refined tannins.HK$3,390.00 -

The 2018 Barolo Bussia is suave, elegant and silky. Crushed. Flowers, spice, mint, cinnamon, sweet red cherry and anise all meld together beautifully in the glass. Light on its feet, with terrific depth, the 2018 has so much going on. Sweet floral top notes lift the finish nicely.HK$3,325.00 -

The Prunotto 2020 Barolo Bussia is very light and luminous in appearance with shiny ruby highlights. There is a note of sweet cherry, even candied cherry, that appears on the bouquet and just as intensely on the mid-palate. Bussia offers delicate fruit in this rendition without the extra brawn and muscle that is most often associated with this site. Instead, this expression focuses in on finesse and silkiness. Fruit comes from across eight hectares in Bussia, and 32,000 bottles were created as a result.HK$3,260.00 -

The 2012 Barolo Riserva Bussia Vigna Colonnello is an intriguing wine. Whole clusters add an exotic element of perfume to the Nebbiolo fruit in this expressive, highly nuanced Barolo. Orange peel, mint, sage and pine overtones all emerge with time in the glass. Understated and also persistent, the 2012 has quite a bit of personality.HK$6,700.00 -

The 2014 Barolo Riserva Bussia Vigna Colonnello is an eccentric wine. Soaring floral and savory nuances give the 2014 an incredibly distinctive upper register. Deceptive in its mid-weight structure, the 2014 nevertheless has plenty of depth as well as freshness. Appreciating it requires a palate reset, as vinificaton with whole clusters (50%) is not common in Barolo. The 2014 is an incredibly intriguing wine, but it needs to really be taken on its own terms because it is undeniably quirky. A few hours of aeration works wonders in helping the wine come together and assimilate the strong stem character that is so pronounced upon first opening.HK$6,840.00 -
Vinous (93+)
The 2015 Barolo Riserva Bussia Vigna Colonnello is a wild, eccentric wine. The use of whole clusters lends quite a bit of savory intensity. Sage, tobacco, holiday spicecake, cedar, blood orange and macerated cherry all develop with a bit of aeration. The tannins just need to soften. If they do this could be a very intriguing wine, but slight hints of oxidation make it hard to understand the direction the 2017 is headed in. No matter what, the Colonnello is a pretty exotic Barolo with a lot of character.HK$6,840.00 -

The 2016 Barolo Riserva Bussia Vigna Colonnello is a dark, potent wine. Black cherry, plum, leather, menthol, licorice, lavender and dried herbs all come together in this heady, strapping Barolo. The 2016 packs a pretty huge punch, but it is also elegant and quite distinctive.HK$6,290.00 -

Distinguished by its black label, the Prunotto 2018 Barolo Riserva Bussia Vigna Colonnello is made just like all the other wines in this portfolio (with fermentation in steel tank and oak aging), but this bottle stands apart thanks to its vintage. The 2018 growing season saw uneven results when first released to market, but it has been reevaluated since, with some truly beautiful wines making their mark today. This wine is elegantly tempered by age with spice and licorice, but it also shows bright cherry and blood orange that underline healthy fruit. It finishes on a fine and silky note, with a hint of sweetness too. This is a 5,954-bottle release.HK$5,550.00 -

In addition to its ongoing stylistic evolution, Prunotto has recently added a few important new sites to its holdings, including this 1.5-hectare parcel in Serralunga d'Alba with ancient Sant'Agata marl soils. The 2020 Barolo Cerretta shows more structural heft at the back with red and blue fruit, blood orange and rusty nail. I also get root and bramble that add an earthy side to the bouquet. This is a release of 9,140 bottles.HK$4,075.00 -

Querciabella's 2015 Batàr (Chardonnay/Pinot Bianco) is very delicate and restrained, especially within the context of the year. Lemon confit, white flowers, orange peel and mint all develop nicely in the glass, but it is the wine's persistence that stands out most. The 2015 is one of the most polished, gracious Batàrs I can remember tasting.HK$770.00 -
