Barolo
Known as the king of wines, it is potent, complex and long-lived wine made from the Nebbiolo grape. The appellation is spread over 2,134 ha in total and consists of several villages and communes. divided into a multitude of individual vineyard sites and crus similar to Burgundy, with many producers owning small plots of the individual crus.
The main winemaking approach is a long maceration of Nebbiolo grapes - between 30 to 60 days -followed by a long maturation period in large old casks for a minimum of 38 months. And many producers often choose to age their wines even longer than this because of the intense fruit and powerful tannins of their grapes.
The combination of microclimate, altitude, soil, exposition and each winemaker’s individual touch is what makes every Barolo different. And in the main communes such as Serralunga, Castiglione Falletto, and La Morra, their Barolos are renowned for certain characteristics unique to each of them, due to their differing soils and exposition.

Deep ruby/red, the 2020 Barolo Bricco Ambrogio boasts a very pretty and detailed bouquet with a floral perfume of ripe raspberries, violets, lilac, and wet stone. Elegant and medium-bodied, it has a lot of graceful details, with fine tannins, lovely concentration and a lovely and linear feel without any austerity. The 2008 Barolo Cannubi bursts from the glass with freshly cut flowers, black cherries, menthol and spices. It is a cool, reserved wine with plenty of Cannubi character. (spends its first year in barriques, 15% new, then its second year in big casks): Deep red. Dark, rather modern aromas of black cherry, licorice, violet, espresso and minerals. Quite tight and primary but a bit monolithic today, almost like a barrel sample. But shows excellent density to its dark cassis, floral and mineral flavors. The Scavino family farms one hectare in this village on loose soils with sand and yellowish marl. Made with fully destemmed fruit, the 2020 Barolo Monvigliero has an elegant nose with rose, red berry and dried herb. The 2013 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata Riserva was released in January of 2019, and once again it looks to be a top prize. Licorice and flowers dominate the bouquet, and its beautiful red fruit is generous throughout. This wine has always been a beauty and consistently has had a high price tag to reflect that quality, going back to the first vintages of the 1990s. It has regularly sold for about $200 every year for the last decade. These vines are old, some of them very old (reaching the ripe age of 60 years old in 1990s, when many of them were replanted with carefully selected clones), producing an elegance and concentration that brings intensity and a high standard of aromas. This Barolo without a doubt shows its pedigree and a quality of noble perfumes that demonstrate characteristics of the greatest Nebbiolo vintages, all delivered with excellent concentration. The nose presents an intense mix of dried cherry and red-berry fruit and rose petals, together with mild spice, Mediterranean herbs, tobacco dried apricot and dried and fresh nuts. Much more if you dig in. Full-bodied, super-relaxed palate that is the perfect display case for all the complex fruit character. The tannins are dense but seamless, never displaying any angular edge. Super-long and super concentrated, this is hard to fault. Yet, despite all the seeming extravagance, it remains a composed red with a long life ahead of it. Drink at your leisure.HK$10,290.00 -

A dramatic Barolo that finishes with huge, sweet tannins and powerful, vibrant flavors of crystallized red fruits, flowers and camphor.
