A bright red color with orange highlights, the 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino is very pretty, with a delicate rustic hint that I find quite attractive. It reveals attractive red fruit on the nose, with notes of cranberries, wild herbs, and just a subtle hint of saddle leather and blood orange. Mid-weight, it's light on its feet while delivering wonderful energy and freshness, with snappy ripe red fruit, a refreshing, angular feel, and mouthwatering saline and acidity. This is certainly one of the highlights of the 2020 vintage. Drink 2025-2040.HK$2,050.00 -
From Italy’s prestigious Montalcino region comes the exquisite Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 1999. As an expert connoisseur's choice, this distinguished wine is meticulously crafted from 100% Sangiovese grapes, aged for four years in Slavonian oak barrels, adhering to DOCG regulations. Brilliant ruby in colour, it exhibits an intoxicating bouquet of ripe dark fruit, earthy undertones and nuanced leather. The palate embraces concentrated notes of lush plum, leading to a lingering finish of black cherry and balanced tannins. Its production house, Fuligni, has been amassing accolades since 1923 for their meticulous cultivation in Montalcino's Eastern part, which delivers a distinct finesse to their wines. The Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 1999, with its sophisticated elegance, is a testament to the superior quality that the Fuligni name represents. Ideal with rich Italian cuisines or red meat dishes, or as a mesmerising wine on its own to be savoured.

The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a wine that shows immense harmony and inner poise. The powerful vintage is elegantly tempered in this expression thanks to the flowing and musical nature of the aromatic presentation. The bouquet opens to a steady pace with small berry nuances followed by spice, tobacco, pressed rose and moist earth. Dig deep and there is a bit of white truffle in there as well. The wine boasts a silky texture with a lean, tonic feel that excels in terms of length and persistence. It never feels too heavy or flat. In fact, the wine is brimming with inner energy and vitality.HK$16,725.00 -

The 2019 Fuligni Brunello Riserva is drop-dead gorgeous. Made with the oldest estate vines, it opens with enticing scents of pine forest, violet, eucalyptus, juniper, new leather and dark exotic spice. Boasting intensity and finesse, the delicious, radiant palate delivers succulent Marasca cherry, crushed raspberry, licorice, black tea and baking spice set against enveloping, velvety tannins. Fresh acidity provides balance and the promise of great longevity. An absolutely thrilling wine.HK$5,515.00 -

The 2019 Rosso di Montalcino Ginestreto takes things to a more classic place with dried strawberries, dusty florals, cloves and nuances of worn leather. It washes across the palate with a textural wave of ripe red and black fruits, supported by brisk acidity, as a salty core of minerals and fine tannins slowly saturates. The 2019 finishes structured and long, reminding me more of Brunello than Rosso, while leaving hints of licorice and minty herbs to linger on. The Ginestreto impresses once again with its amazing combination of fruit, acid and structure that promises many years of positive evolution.HK$1,550.00 -

The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino normale is a fabulously plush, concentrated and intense expression of Brunello and represents probably the estate’s best vintage to date. The aromatics are perfumed and detailed showing cherry blossom, violets, vanilla oak spice and ripe dark layers of red and black berries, sweet cherry tobacco, cola and subtle red liquorice notes with just the faintest spearmint menthol top note. On the palate, the tannins are ripe but powerful with broad mouth-coating grip supported by pure cherry and cranberry fruit concentration, hints of balsamic, crystalline fresh acids and a wonderfully long harmonious finish. Distinguished and refined, but showing tremendous breadth, depth and structural power making this a perfect wine for medium to long-term cellaring. Drink from 2024 to 2036+HK$3,990.00 -

Lustrous ruby. Pretty nose of red fruit with a dark earth note and a mere suggestion of oak. Cool-climate character. Sleek and succulent and with fine, gripping tannins; more direct than the Rennina of the same vintage. Will improve with more bottle age, even if it is already very attractive.HK$3,190.00 -

An outstanding surprise, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a monumental wine. The Rennina single vineyard is said to be more feminine compared to the bolder fruit sourced in the nearby Sugarille cru. But in the 2010 vintage, you definitely get a compelling sense of power, density and extraction. What distinguishes the wine is the delicate mineral signature that appears through the thick texture of the fruit. It's like background music that gives cozy ambiance to an elaborately furnished ballroom. I consider the 2010 Rennina a masterpiece and, again, I just don't know how Angelo Gaja does it. He is the winemaker with the Midas touch. Truth be told, the wine does lack territory-driven typicity. But it's just so darn good, it hardly matters. It will continue its evolution for 10-20 years. Congratulations.HK$10,945.00 -

The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Rennina is made from a blend of fruit from three different vineyard parcels. The sites total 25 hectares, with 15 located next to the church, or the Pieve, after which this estate is named. The sites have southwest exposures and different soil types. That flexibility explains the smooth and seamless bouquet offered by this wine. Compared to the single vineyard Sugarille expression, Rennina is more open and immediate. The wine presents fleshy and beautifully plump aromas of red cherry, dried blackberry and exotic spice with tobacco and chocolate at the back.HK$7,375.00 -

Delicate and understated in the glass, the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Rennina whisps up with a pleasantly earthy mix of dried strawberries, roses and clove nuances. This coasts silky textural fruits across a core of brisk acidity and saline-minerals in an untethered Brunello of pure elegance. It finishes with ample tannins, but also remarkably fresh, leaving notes of red plum, mocha and tobacco to linger. This harmonious vintage of Rennina should evolve beautifully in collectors’ cellars.HK$3,575.00 -

Impeccably balanced with that proverbial Gaja Madias Touch that always denotes an extra level of creaminess or fruit concentration that fits lock and key with the wine's acidity and velvety tannic structure, this is a truly gorgeous wine. The Pieve Santa Restituta 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Rennina represents a blend of fruit from sites of various soil compositions and exposures. In this classic vintage, you can count on a wine that is firmly structured and important in terms of mouthfeel, but it also yields to delicate and softer nuances of wild rose, toasted cumin seed, campfire ash and grilled rosemary. The wine sticks to the palate and offers long-lasting black fruit flavors.HK$9,280.00 -

Pouring a bright ruby/magenta color, the 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino Renina is generous with fruity aromas of blackberries, red cherries, crushed flowers, polished cedar, and mossy forest earth. Approachable and elegant, the palate is ripe with medium to full-bodied richness, plush tannins, and good length, and it retains crisp, refreshing acidity, with a nice, elegant saltiness. It was just bottled in June, so this was tasted quite early on, but it's going to be ready earlier and drink well over the coming 15 or so years. This wine is a blend of a few vineyards compared to the Sugarille, which is their single vineyard red.HK$3,395.00 -
