Medium red brick in color, the 2020 Barbaresco Albesani Vigna Borgese is showing off bright and sunny aromas of dried strawberries, roses, anise, and sweet herbs. Medium-bodied, it’s elegant and juicy on the palate, with ripe tannins and its delicate sweetness of fruit continuing through the finish. It has very nice freshness of acidity that weaves the wine forward with a linear feel and keep things light on its feet. It’s attractive now though will show its best 2026-2036.HK$1,680.00 -

Davide Fregonese's 2015 Barolo Prapò is loaded with personality and character. A Barolo of terrific aromatic depth, complexity and structure, the Prapò has much to offer, once the searing tannins start to soften. Sage, menthol, rose petal, pine, licorice and spice emerge gradually with time in the glass. The 2015 needs time to come together, but there is plenty of substance here.HK$2,820.00 -

The 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino pours a jeweled ruby color and has more concentration than the 2018, but it's going to need time to reach its full potential of complexity. Rich notes of kirsch, licorice, sapid herbs, and dark stones are followed by a medium to full-bodied red that's deep and rich through the palate, with ripe and noble tannins, a seamless feel, and a long-lasting finish. A profound wine and one of the best of the vintage, give it some time while drinking the 2018s and 2020s.HK$11,130.00 -

The 1993 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento is remarkably fresh, vibrant and youthful. Amazingly, the tannins are still a bit sturdy. Dark cherries, licorice, new leather and spices are some of the many notes that flesh out in this fat, rich Brunello. A wine of gorgeous contrasts, the 1993 is at once dense, yet austere, with one foot in the past and the other in the present.HK$10,805.00 -

Super classic Brunello from a classic vintage, being released now. The perfume to this is really something, with cherries, flowers, lead pencil and light hints of graphite. Then it moves to raspberries and black cherries with some sandalwood shavings. You just want to smell it. Clear and transparent. Full-bodied with very fine and succinct tannins that fill the mouth and show super tension and form. Extremely long and structured. Beautiful now, but this will age for decades ahead. Drink or hold.HK$7,030.00 -

The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Poggio al Vento Riserva wafts up with gorgeous dusty rose, violet tones, worn leather and dried black cherries. It balances the sun-kissed nature of the vintage with zesty acidity and a fine tannic grip, as ripe red berry fruits saturate the palate. The finish is incredibly long and potent yet harmonious, with an inflection of sage and cedary spice. The 2015 is already showing beautifully in line with the vintage, with potential for another decade or more.HK$2,585.00 -

Moderately saturated bright red-ruby. Raspberry, rose oil, sour red cherry, and Asian spices on the nose, with a note of cola gaining strength with air. Refined and concentrated at the same time, with sweet red berry, herbal and mineral flavors becoming fuller with air. Finishes with impressive energy and lingering red fruit and floral qualities that are nicely buffered by fine-grained tannins. Much less powerful but then again also more graceful than the 2010 Poggio al Vento. I also noticed this picks up considerable volume with air, so my suggestion is to decant an hour or two ahead, should you decide to pop a cork early. Lay this away.HK$3,050.00 -

The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento is coy at first, brooding, with dark dusty florals, exotic spices and a hint of brown sugar; yet time in the glass allows it to blossom and show its inner beauty, as wave after wave of crushed strawberry, cherry and sweet violets lifts from the glass. On the palate, soft textures envelop the senses in sweet and savory red berry fruits, so silky and refined, as it seems to hover weightlessly, while saline minerals and youthful tannins begin to saturate all that they touch. The finish is long and structured, closing in upon itself, tugging at the cheek and reminding me that this wine is just a baby today. Simply stunning, yet in need of five to ten years of cellaring to show its best. Wow.HK$2,850.00 -

The estate's 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio al Vento is striking. Freshly cut roses, sweet spices and red cherries wrap around the palate in a sensual wine endowed with superb depth and pedigree. This is one of the more feminine, gracious wines of the year. It will be interesting to see where the 2007 Poggio al Vento goes over the coming decades. Today, it is all about texture. The combination of dazzling fruit supported by plenty of structure makes me think this is one of the few 2007 Riservas that is built for the long haul.HK$3,895.00 -

The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Poggio al Vento Riserva starts to show tertiary nuances as dusty soil tones, dried roses and cedar complicate crushed wildberries and a lifting hint of rosemary evolves in the glass. It offers total pleasure on the palate, silken and round with fresh acidity for balance and a pure display of strawberry and cherry. The finish shows excellent length and framing tannins, perfectly balanced as a balsamic twang and the slightest tinge of soy fade. The 2006 is ready to go, yet balanced for many more years of cellaring.HK$3,895.00 -

Pouring a youthful ruby red color, the 2023 Dolcetto D'Alba was fermented with the addition of 60% whole clusters in the fermentation, adding a pleasing lifted spice and refined chalkiness to the texture of the wine. It’s made in a fantastically fresh style reminiscent of high elevation Grenache and boasts notes of cracked pepper spice, mixed red and black raspberry fruit, cooling wet stones, and a floral perfume of wildflowers. The 2021 Barolo Margheria is all class. Dark cherry, sage, lavender, menthol, licorice and blood orange endow the 2021 with tons of character. The 2021 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is a surprisingly understated wine. Dark-toned fruit, gravel, incense, sage, menthol and licorice lend notable aromatic breadth before a kick of Serralunga tannin appears on the mid-palate and finish. The 2008 Barolo Vigna Rionda possesses striking inner perfume and sweetness as it wraps around the palate. Raspberries, hard candy, flowers, mint and sweet spices are some of the many notes that flow from this effortless, sensual Barolo. Silky tannins are present, but they are nearly covered by the pure sensuality of the fruit. Today the Rionda is supple, sweet and totally inviting. The finish is intense and totally haunting. The 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Il Grigio di San Felice is an extrovert. A blast of dark fruit, leather, incense, scorched earth, tobacco and dried flowers conveys virile intensity right out of the gate. On pouring, the 2020 Barolo Monvigliero appears paler in the glass compared to the others tasted in this vertical of Monvigliero, but it opens to become spicy, bright, and complete, with notes of strawberries, spice, fresh flowers, cinnamon, and dusty earth. A great wine with the most distinct sense of place, it offers a tightrope of fine tannins, a snappy spine of acidity, and a long finish, with a fresh, balanced, and age-worthy feel as well as savory, mouthwatering tension and mineral undercurrents. The 2020 Langhe Freisa is powerful wild and gamy. Cured meats, leather, tobacco, incense, dried dark cherry, tobacco and spice all run through this wild, decidedly rustic Freisa. It's not an especially easy wine to taste in this lineup of otherwise elegant reds. That may change in future vintages, though. The 2020 is the first Langhe Freisa that Maria Teresa Mascarello is bottling as a still wine. In the past, the Freisa had been done in the traditional, slightly sparkling style in which the wine undergoes a secondary fermentation in bottle, but the higher natural alcohols of current times make that impossible.HK$1,065.00 -
