From the estate’s prime vineyard in the Scarrone cru in Castiglione Falletto, this lovely Barolo offers enticing scents of perfumed berry, wild rose, new leather, licorice and whiffs of forest floor and Alpine hay. Elegantly structured and absolutely delicious, the smooth palate delivers juicy Morello cherry, crushed raspberry, star anise and hints of saline framed in taut, lithe tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it bright and balanced. It’s already fantastic but will also age beautifully.HK$6,040.00 -

The 2021 Barolo Margheria is all class. Dark cherry, sage, lavender, menthol, licorice and blood orange endow the 2021 with tons of character. Powerful yet refined, the 2021 is one of the best versions of this wine I have tasted. Clean mineral notes extend the gorgeous, resonant finish.HK$2,745.00 -

The 2021 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is a surprisingly understated wine. Dark-toned fruit, gravel, incense, sage, menthol and licorice lend notable aromatic breadth before a kick of Serralunga tannin appears on the mid-palate and finish. This deceptively mid-weight Barolo packs plenty of punch. Give it a year or two to settle down.HK$1,850.00 -

The 2008 Barolo Vigna Rionda possesses striking inner perfume and sweetness as it wraps around the palate. Raspberries, hard candy, flowers, mint and sweet spices are some of the many notes that flow from this effortless, sensual Barolo. Silky tannins are present, but they are nearly covered by the pure sensuality of the fruit. Today the Rionda is supple, sweet and totally inviting. The finish is intense and totally haunting. This is an exceptional, hugely promising Barolo from Giampaolo Pira. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2028.HK$5,395.00 -

The 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Il Grigio di San Felice is an extrovert. A blast of dark fruit, leather, incense, scorched earth, tobacco and dried flowers conveys virile intensity right out of the gate. In my mind, the two Il Grigios (Riserva and Gran Selezione) are not that different. The Gran Selezione was aged in 70% cask and 30% 500-litre French oak barrels.HK$1,620.00 -

Sweet red cherries, plums, menthol, smoke, tobacco, mint and licorice are some of the notes that meld together in the 2011 Barolo Monvigliero. Sensual, layered and creamy on the palate, the 2011 speaks to balance above all else. Ripe, silky tannins add to an overall impression of finesse. It's hard to say much else, except that the 2011 hits all the right notes. What a gorgeous wine this is.HK$3,760.00 -

On pouring, the 2020 Barolo Monvigliero appears paler in the glass compared to the others tasted in this vertical of Monvigliero, but it opens to become spicy, bright, and complete, with notes of strawberries, spice, fresh flowers, cinnamon, and dusty earth. A great wine with the most distinct sense of place, it offers a tightrope of fine tannins, a snappy spine of acidity, and a long finish, with a fresh, balanced, and age-worthy feel as well as savory, mouthwatering tension and mineral undercurrents. Drink it over the next 20 years.HK$3,345.00 -

The 2020 Langhe Freisa is powerful wild and gamy. Cured meats, leather, tobacco, incense, dried dark cherry, tobacco and spice all run through this wild, decidedly rustic Freisa. It's not an especially easy wine to taste in this lineup of otherwise elegant reds. That may change in future vintages, though. The 2020 is the first Langhe Freisa that Maria Teresa Mascarello is bottling as a still wine. In the past, the Freisa had been done in the traditional, slightly sparkling style in which the wine undergoes a secondary fermentation in bottle, but the higher natural alcohols of current times make that impossible.HK$1,065.00 -

The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Nastagio is youthfully coy, requiring time to release its dark fruits and savory exotic spices. This is velvety in feel yet not weighty at all, with ripe black fruits contrasting nervous acidity as autumnal spices come forward toward the close. Hints of vanilla, tobacco and sweet herbs linger through the long, structured finale. The 2016 finds a wonderful balance of fruit, structure and acidity, and it should be glorious in another five to ten years’ time.HK$1,490.00 -

A deeper brick color, the 2020 Barolo Aleste is also darker and more introspective on the nose, with notes of fresh leather, baked cherries, dark stones, and umami richness in its hint of porcini. It expands on the palate, with ripe, broad tannins, good freshness, a rich texture, and a long finish. Although it’s a riper wine, it’s going to age gracefully over the coming 15-20 years.HK$1,565.00 -

Ettore Germano specializes in Barolo from Serralunga d'Alba. The wine that casts the widest net is the 2021 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba. With 15,000 bottles made, it opens to a dark color, powerful texture and a richness that supports dark fruit, black licorice, toasted aniseed and candied orange. There is a tart note of pomegranate as well. The wine definitely hits higher on the Nebbiolo intensity meter.HK$2,305.00 -

I prefer this wine to Fèlsina's top-shelf Fontalloro. The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colonia is irresistibly angular and tight, opening a profound view onto what makes Sangiovese so expressive and unique, especially when planted in the right territories. The bouquet is savory and almost sanguine with iron ore, rusty nail and baked clay. But there's plenty of fruit as well, in the form of wild berry and black cherry, that adds to the dimension and dynamic freshness of the mouthfeel. The 2018 vintage saw a few moments of heat during the summer, but the Colonia vineyard is protected by forests and cooler altitudes. Give this wine time to soften in the bottle.HK$1,545.00 -
