    Adrien Renoir

    About Adrien Renoir

Adrien Renoir took over his family's 5-hectare vineyard in 2014, located in the Grand Cru village of Verzy. He greatly admires Sébastien Mouzon and his champagnes, and immediately switched to organic farming despite his father's doubts. He later implemented biodynamics and agroforestry to further improve the quality of the vineyard.

Adrien's father did not want to uproot healthy old vines in pursuit of higher yields, and passed on a selection of vineyards that were composed mostly (65%) of high-quality old massales planted before 1965. The soils are worked superficially to avoid disturbing its structure and encourage microbial life, and trees and hedges are planted to boost biodiversity and positively impact the vineyard's meso-climate. The aim is to reach an average of 250 trees per hectare of vines.

Adrien's Champagnes have a fine mineral backbone and an incisive nature, reflecting their Verzy roots. However, they have a little more fat and a softer texture than Mouzon-Leroux due to their ageing in more recent barrels. Despite being only 30 years old, Adrien has already earned great respect from William Kelley. We strongly encourage anyone with a keen interest in the region to try his Champagnes before they become too popular.

Disgorged in January 2023, the NV Extra-Brut Grand Cru Le Terroir (2020 base) is following hard on the heels of its 2019-base counterpart. A little more reserved out of the gates, it unwinds to reveal notes of pear, citrus oil, white flowers and almond paste, followed by a medium to full-bodied, pillowy and precise palate that's fine-boned, bright and mineral.
