Aldo Conterno
One of Barolo’s greatest winemakers, Aldo Conterno was respected by both modern and traditionalist Barolo winemakers. The son of Giacomo Conterno, sadly he passed away in 2012. Renowned for his Barolo from the large Bussia designation where he cleverly isolated three of the best parcels (Cicala, Colonnello, Romirasco) to produce stylish and super-classic Barolo with excellent depth and class of fruit.

The 2017 Barolo Cicala is a powerful, deep wine. Black cherry, menthol, tobacco, scorched earth, chocolate and searing tannins are some of the signatures. The Cicala has plenty of depth, but my instincts say it will mature before the tannins soften. I would prefer to drink this over the next decade, but readers need to expect that the balance is not ideal.HK$6,580.00 -

The 2017 Barolo Colonello is heady, exuberant and super-expressive. Wild cherry, tobacco, cedar, incense and blood orange all race out of the glass. There is something exotic about the Colonello that I find quite alluring. This racy Barolo captures the exuberance of the year, but is not at all overdone. Early signs of maturity in the aromatics and flavors suggest it is a wine for near and medium-term drinking.HK$6,530.00 -

The 2017 Barolo Romirasco is a very pretty and satisfying Barolo. Bright red-toned fruit, mint, blood orange, cinnamon and rose petal give this mid-weight Barolo a good deal of freshness. Deceptive in its mid-weight feel, the Romirasco has plenty of depth. But it is the balance here that is most notable. This is a fine showing,HK$10,495.00
