Arianna Occhipinti
About Arianna Occhipinti
Born and bred on the beautiful island of Sicily, it was clear from a remarkably early age that Arianna Occhipinti would find herself crafting wines of the highest order. The niece of Giusto Occhipinti, pioneering Sicilian winemaker, the 16-year-old Arianna accompanied her uncle to the VinItaly expo – the rest is history.
Graduating from the University of Milan’s School of Viticulture and Oenology, Occhipinti wasted no time in establishing herself as the next Sicilian superstar. Incredibly, the tremendously talented vigneron released her first vintage, under her own label, at the age of 22! 2009 marked the debut of a new force in Italian fine wine, which has since gone on to become one of the most sought after labels in the chicest wine bars and restaurants from Palermo to Shanghai.
Based in the Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG, Occhipinti tends to 22 hectares of fully biodynamic (since the very inception of her eponymous winery) Nero d’Avola and Frappato vines perched on the stunning Southern side of Sicily, perpetually kissed by Mediterranean breezes from across the sea.

Wine Advocate (94+)From the Contrada Bombolieri, the 2016 Frappato Vino di Contrada BB appears to be the darkest and most saturated in this set of three Frappato-based wines. This vineyard is set high on a promontory with white limestone soils. The expression is open and accessible like the others, yet this wine adds an additional layer of earth or potting soil on top of the bright red and black fruit you get on the nose. This one also appears to have extra layering and textural richness. All that fruit is capped by fresh acidity that plays a big role, making this wine a nice pairing partner to creamy fettuccine. An exclusive 2,400 bottles were produced. |
