Arnoux-Lachaux
Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux
Established in 1858, Arnoux-Lachaux is a family affair. Pascal Lachaux (son-in-law of the late Robert Arnoux) is the fifth generation making wine at this Domaine, which has significant grand Cru holdings. he is now working in the winery with his son Charles who has joined him after working in wine regions in New Zealand, South Africa and Oregon.
The Domaine’s wine has always been good but its quality and reputation are sharply rising. A new winery, cellar upgrade and acquisition of a parcel of the Grand Cru Latricieres Chambertin have all contributed.

Jancis Robinson (16.5)A blend of seven plots in Chambolle, Vosne and Nuits-St-Georges – about half of the fruit is from Chambolle. 100% whole bunch. 34 hl/ha (lower than in 2017). 10,000 bottles produced (8,500 in 2019). Lightish cherry red. Scented nose with lively fruit but savoury rather than sweet. Succulent, supple and with generous and fresh fruit. Gentle and persistent. Mouth-watering. Really polished but natural (in the general sense of the word, ie authentic) at the same time. Seems effortless. You could drink this now though it does have a fine backbone and a refreshing dry texture on the finish. |

Vinous (90-92)The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Village has a very harmonious, slightly earthy bouquet, the 100% whole bunch lending a very discreet tertiary/sous-bois quality. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit (cranberry, strawberry and pomegranate). This has quite strict tannins and a Morey-inspired, sapid finish. Good potential. |

Wine Advocate (95)The 2018 Echezeaux Grand Cru is also showing extremely well, soaring from the glass with aromas of raspberries, cherries, blood orange, incense, spices and peonies. On the palate it's medium to full-bodied, deep and ample, with a strikingly vibrant, dynamic core of fruit that's structured around fine, powdery tannins, concluding with a long and expansive finish. To produce such an energetic Echezeaux in such a warm vintage is quite an achievement. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2018 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru was cropped at just 18hl/ha due to the way Charles Lachaux cane-pruned the vines after the hail-damaged 2017 vintage. The broody nose reveals hints of dark chocolate infusing the brambly red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit. Structured and foursquare, conservative in some ways, with a strong marine influence developing toward the fresh finish. It will need several years in bottle, but there is good potential here. |

Vinous (90-92)The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Procès has a complex bouquet featuring earthy and woodland aromas and touches of morels and black truffle. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannins, and more compact than the Les Poisets, showing a touch of black pepper on the finish. Give this four or five years in bottle, because it has more to give. |

Jancis Robinson (16.5)1.42 ha from seven lieux-dits in the north of the appellation. 100% whole bunch. Lightish cherry red but greyish rather than crimson. A little more savoury than the Bourgogne and a very slight stemmy herbal note but it's subtle. A little bit peppery. More tension here than in the Bourgogne, a little lighter in obvious fruit and a little more tannic but barely so. Super-fresh. Dry and lingering. So elegant. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has a winsome bouquet of perfumed raspberry, crushed strawberry and rose petal aromas that boast exquisite delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins, vibrant red and black fruit and a very linear, vivid finish that conveys a sense of coiled energy. Superb. |

Vinous (90-92)The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Hautes Maizières has a very pure, generous bouquet of wild strawberry, Dorset plum and pressed rose petal aromas, all wonderfully defined, especially for a Village Cru. The palate is medium-bodied with quite sharp tannins, and more citric than the other cuvées. There is a pleasant piquancy on the finish. Excellent. |
