Château Beauregard
About Château Beauregard
Purchased from Credit Foncier in 2014 by a joint venture between two families, this estate’s stupendous rise in both fame and quality comes as little surprise considering that one half of the familial duo currently in charge at Beauregard is none other than Florence and Daniel Cathiard of the imperious Château Smith Haut Lafitte – currently one of the most in-demand names across Bordeaux.
Not only one of the most beautiful 18th-century châteaux, complete with formal gardens, on the Right Bank, Beauregard is also planted with the single highest proportion of Cabernet Franc in Pomerol. A mere handful of years in winemaking terms since the Cathiards arrived, bringing with them masterful technical director Fabien Teitgen, and the improvements to the wines here are impressive, to say the least. Wonderfully textured tannins, succulent fruit and an indefatigable vivacity are now features of the modern Château Beauregard.
Viniculture
Still something of a hidden gem, hunted down only by those truly in the know, the immediate changes implemented by its new owners included later picking, a savage reduction in yields and a completely comprehensive soil study culminating in the entire vineyard being managed organically. Planted to 66% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and a modest 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, Beauregard is blessed with uncommonly fine terroir being situated next to the mighty La Conseillante and Vieux Château Certan:

Vinous - Ian D'Agata (86-88)Good full ruby-red. Spicy aromas of blueberry, coffee and bitter chocolate. Quite suave on entry, then sweet, lush and deep in the middle, with good lift to the cassis, coffee and violet flavors. Turns a touch austere on the firmly structured, persistent aftertaste. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94)The 2020 Beauregard is gorgeous. Dark, ample and expressive, the 2020 offers tremendous depth and textural intensity from start to finish. Black cherry, gravel, incense, tobacco, espresso and chocolate all race out of the glass. Even with all of its obvious intensity, the 2020 remains wonderfully fresh and vibrant. It's a superb wine by any measure. |
