Château Calon-Ségur
Château Calon-Ségur
Château Calon-Ségur took its name from two former owners, Monseigneur de Calon, a bishop and Nicolas-Alexandre, marquis de Ségur, a winemaker who was reportedly known as the “Prince of Vines” for owning some of the most famous estates in Bordeaux including Château Lafite, Château Latour, Château Mouton. In fact, the iconic heart on the label of Château Calon-Ségur came from de Ségur, who supposedly said: “I make my wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is in Calon”.
For nearly 110 years since 1894, Château Calon-Ségur was owned by the Gasqueton family until it was acquired by a large French insurance company in 2012. Notably, Jean-Pierre Moueix, the owner of Pétrus and the massive negociant company Duclot, also took a minority stake in Château Calon-Ségur. The new owners quickly set about rejuvenating the estate by upgrading their vat rooms and replanting their vineyards at a higher vine density. As the northernmost Classified Growth in Médoc, Château Calon-Ségur enjoys one of the coolest terroirs and often can be one of the last estates to harvest.

The 2017 Le Marquis de Calon-Ségur, bottled in May 2019, offers attractive blackberry, raspberry coulis and light briary aromas on the nose, which is well defined. The palate is very Pauillac in style with graphite-tinged black fruit, reflecting the higher percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon now used in the blend. This will form delightful drinking over the next 5 to 8 years.HK$3,000.00
