Vinous - Neal Martin (91-93)The 2018 Pernand-Vergelesses Ile de Vergelesses 1er Cru comes from mid-slope, east-facing vines on limestone-clay soils. This offers more clarity and delineation than the Les Vergelesses, with vivid red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, quite saline and a little spicier than the Vergelesses, with a longer tail on the finish. This is superb. What you might call proper red Burgundy!

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-95)A blend of older vines or pinot fin from slightly younger ones. Vibrant magical purple, then the most gorgeous bouquet with a wonderful level of distinction and elegance from this great vineyard. Dark fruit throughout, very stylish, white pepper and spice, perhaps a touch of blackcurrant in with the raspberry, but this is brilliantly done and entirely balanced. The silkiest of tannins. Tasted: October 2021

Wine Advocate (90-92)Offering up aromas of raspberries and plums mingled with sweet spices and petals, the 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune Aux Fourneaux is medium to full-bodied, seamless and concentrated, with tangy acids and a long, fragrant finish. As readers may remember, this cuvée derives from a single parcel, two-thirds of which is classified as premier cru.

Wine Advocate (93)From vines planted in the 1950s, the 2015 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières is a one of the highlights of the range this year, wafting from the glass with a fragrant and projected bouquet of orange rind, potpourri, plum, raspberry and incipient forest floor. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, velvety and sapid, with a rich attack, succulent acids, an ample chassis of fine-grained tannins and a long, saline finish. A superb Lavières that has yet to shut down.

Vinous (92)The 2017 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Lavières 1er Cru, already in bottle, has a vibrant, spicy, rose petal and violet bouquet that is even more intense than the Aux Fournaux. The chalk/limestone terroir really shows through here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. It does not quite have the charm and crystalline quality of the Aux Fournaux, but is more masculine and structured, with a lovely marine element tincturing the dark berry fruit toward the chalky finish. Excellent.

Vinous (91)The 2018 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Lavières 1er Cru has retained the plumpness on the nose that I observed from barrel, offering lovely wild strawberry and raspberry aromas. The harmonious palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, crisp acidity and a slightly chalky finish. Maybe just missing a little persistence, yet this remains a fine Les Lavières.

Vinous (89-91)The 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Lavières 1er Cru shows evident whole bunch on the nose that slightly occludes the terroir expression, yet it is fresh and transparent. The palate is medium-bodied with a crisp raspberry and blackberry opening. Leafy red fruit combines with a touch of graphite toward the finish. A nimble Savigny with a peppery finish. Should drink well over the next decade.

Vinous (91-93)The 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Lavières 1er Cru has a pure, perfumed bouquet with scents of raspberry and peony, the 100% whole bunch barely perceptable. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, a fine bead of acidity, cohesive with fine backbone and a slightly peppery, clove-tinged finish. Wonderful.
