Dr Loosen
About Dr Loosen
For over 200 years, the Loosen family have been producing wines from their famously steep slate vineyards overlooking the Mosel, developing into one of the most significant estates in Germany. Now headed up by the incredibly talented Ernst Loosen, Decanter’s ‘Man of the Year’ in 2005, one of the world’s most esteemed Riesling masters and Germany’s most influential winemakers.
Dr. Loosen owns six major vineyards, all of which were designated as Erste Lage (first growth) in the 1868 Prussian Classification of Mosel vineyards. These include famous names such as Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Erdener Prälat and Graacher Himmelreich. These vineyards produce revered single-vineyard wines. As well as the mineral-rich slate and volcanic soils and classic, long, cool summers, these rocky vineyards also have old, un-grafted vines, some more than 120 years old.

The 2019 Graacher Domprobst Riesling GG is coolish and slatey on the darker-toned, aromatic, slightly flinty and very elegant nose that reveals perfectly ripe apricot and more lush stone fruit aromas with notes of slate oil. Finely classy on the the first attack, this is a filigreed yet substantial, tensioned and enormously long and salty Dompobst with a kiss of sweetness that should be entirely integrated after 5 or so years of bottle aging. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.HK$2,000.00 -

The 2021 Ürziger Würzgarten GG Alte Reben offers a clear, beautifully refined and flinty bouquet of ripe and elegant Riesling fruit spiced with stony splinters. Lush and refined on the palate, this is a very elegant, saline and textured Riesling with enormous salinity in the mouth-watering, rich and intense finish. Definitely the finest GG of the vintage here. 12.5% alcohol. Tasted as a sample at the domaine in July 2022. To be bottled in October.HK$1,600.00
