Based in Gevrey-Chambertin, Drouhin-Laroze owns an impressive range of Grand Cru across the Cote d’Or. Philippe Drouhin is helped by his daughter Caroline reducing the oak to focus on the excellent fruit they have at their fingertips. The style of Drouhin-Laroze sits between the modern and traditional style; the extraction and use of oak are moderate here.

Burghound (93-95)
A ripe but brooding nose features aromas of spiced black raspberry, red currant and floral notes. The powerful, concentrated and distinctly earthy broad-shouldered flavors possess plenty of muscle as the dense and firm mouth coating tannins will require at least 15 years to resolve. I very much like this very rich effort as it's a Bèze of imposing size and weight along with explosive length yet it retains a fine sense of harmony and balance. Wine Advocate (88-90)
The 2013 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has plenty of lilting dark plum and strawberry fruit on the nose, nicely defined and pure. The palate is medium-bodied with supple coffee-tinged black fruit, the Seguin Moreau oak coming on quite strong toward the finish that slightly obscures the terroir expression. Like some of the other of Drouhin-Laroze's 2013s, last year's offering was showing much better.HK$6,815.00 -
