Domaine Duroché
About Domaine Duroché
The wines by fourth-generation Gilles Duroché and his son Pierre, are utterly transporting. Unmistakably Pinot Noir and inescapably Gevrey-Chambertin, the wines give a dynamic sense of place and can be seen as a masterclass in the style of the appellation. With exacting standards applied across the entire range, from the humblest Bourgogne up to the Grands Crus, Duroché has made a name for itself as one of the premier growers in this fabled region.

Vinous (97)The 2019 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru comes from vines planted in 1920 and includes 25% whole bunch. It is deeper in color than the Latricières. This takes time to unfold in the glass, eventually offering well-defined blackberry, raspberry, incense and pressed iris aromas that soar from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, harmonious and effortlessly poised. This is an outstanding Clos-de-Bèze, one of the finest I have tasted from the estate. |

Decanter (97)Sourced from what Burgundians often call 'Charmes-Charmes' to distinguish it from the Mazoyères part of this extensive Grand Cru, this cuvée uses fruit from five different parcels, all but one of which is 40 years' old. Floral and intense, with 20% whole bunches adding some freshness and spice, this is a serious, well-upholstered Pinot Noir showing fine tannins and appealingly understated oak. |

Vinous (96-98)The 2020 Chambertin Grand Cru, from vines planted in 1934, has a little more depth and complexity than the Clos-de-Beze. Finely chiselled red cherries, wild strawberry and limestone scents unfurl in the glass. The palate is beautifully balanced, again, very silky and harmonious with a touch of more sapidity evident towards the finish. This has real class and pedigree here, this is an exceptional wine that will surely be highly sought-after. |

Wine Advocate (95)The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut Saint-Jacques Vieilles Vignes is once again one of the highlights of the range, offering up a deep and complex bouquet of wild berries, plums and sweet soil tones, complemented by top notes of spices, rose petals and bergamot. Medium to full-bodied, multidimensional and muscular, it's textural and concentrated, with lively acids, beautifully refined tannins and a long, resonant finish. |

Burgundy | 2 | 88 (VN) | HK$5,945.00
Vinous (88)The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Village, from the domaine, is completely destemmed and matured in 15% new oak. It displays a little more precision than its counterpart under the négociant label, ripe and nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins, a fleshy mouthfeel and a touch of piquancy on the finish. This should drink well for 5–7 years, possibly longer. |

Burgundy | 2 | 89-91 (VN) | HK$4,780.00
Vinous (89-91)The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Village from the domaine has a vibrant bouquet with red cherries and wild strawberry, touches orange zest. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, fresh with a light saline note. Quite Morey-like in style with good length, this shows a little more concentration than the négoce offering. Well worth seeking out. |

Wine Advocate (89-91+)The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Jeunes Rois offers up aromas of raspberries, plums and blackberries mingled with sweet soil tones and raw cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, supple and elegant, it's pretty and precise. Indeed, it's an unusually refined, fine-boned rendition of this reliably concentrated cuvée. |

Vinous (95-97)The 2018 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru has a much more complex and engaging bouquet compared to the Charmes-Chambertin, a smorgasbord of ebullient red berry fruit laced with minerals and wilted rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins and a brisk line of acidity. Fresh and vibrant with gentle grip toward the finish. This is an outstanding 2018 from Pierre Duroché that will give 20 to 30 years of drinking pleasure. Superb. |
