Vinous (93)Medium red. Dark raspberry, gunflint, peony and brown spices on the perfumed nose. Sweet but juicy and penetrating, with lovely focus to its generous flavors of raspberry, minerals and spices. The spice character carries impressively on the long finish, which features a fine dusting of tannins. This has turned out very well and has the balance to evolve at a leisurely pace. |

Vinous (92+)Bright red. Expressive aromas of raspberry, white pepper and wild herbs. Juicy, spicy and penetrating, with the pepper and herb elements carrying through on the palate. In a very tight stage today, showing the brisk acidity it displayed from barrel a year ago but hiding its richness. The Clos de Bèze has more material and depth, but with its substantial tannins this taut wine may need at least as long to come into harmony. |

Vinous (91-94)(13.4% natural alcohol, from fruit harvested on September 3): Bright dark red. Very dark scents of blueberry, blackberry, licorice pastille and high-toned brown spices are pure but reticent. Penetrating, powerful, slightly hard-edged wine with a serious tannic structure and apparent oak influence. Obviously very ripe, this wine is extremely tight today, even youthfully tough, and will require considerable patience. My score may prove to be overly conservative. |

Vinous (91+)(a blend of Charmes and Mazoyères): Dark red. In a very ripe style (as usual for this cuvée, notes Magnien), hinting at black cherry, licorice pastille and damp earth. Quite rich and deep; this wine might well offer early appeal just for its atypical sweetness but its powerful, rather monolithic tannins shut down the fruit on the back end. |

Burghound (91-94)A pungent nose is composed by notes of menthol, mocha, black cherry, poached plum, warm earth and soft wood nuances. The exceptionally rich and round flavors possess fine volume and a seductively textured and sappy mouthfeel, all wrapped in a youthfully austere, powerful and firmly structured finale. This is quite good and especially for its excellent persistence. 2031+ |
