Domaine Hubert Lamy
About Domaine Hubert Lamy
Lamy is a historic name in Burgundy, with a vine growing history in St-Aubin stretching as far back as 1640. However, it is Olivier Lamy, the current owner and winemaker of the family estate, who put this artisanal estate on the international fine wine stage.
A diligent vigneron representing the new generation of exciting winemakers, Olivier is keen to make progress in both his vineyard and cellar. Having sharpened his craft at Méo-Camuzet before taking over the family estate in 1996, he established a very sharp acumen for identifying the best and oldest sites. Adding his natural winemaking instinct to more technical knowledge such as how to train vines flexibly, his exquisitely fine and terroir-expressive wines are celebrated by Burgundian connoisseurs the world over.

The 2019 Saint-Aubin Derrière Chez Edouard 1er Cru (Rouge) has a very focused bouquet of brambly red fruit, light loamy scents, damp autumn earth and powdered chalk, all delivered with fine delineation. The medium-bodied palate offers black currant and raspberry fruit, slightly chalky tannins and a bitter cherry finish that gets the saliva flowing.HK$4,065.00 -

The 2010 St. Aubin En Remilly is another gorgeous, complete wine. It shows the brighter, more focused style of village. Citrus, white flowers and crushed rocks all take shape in the glass as this vibrant, chiseled Burgundy opens up in the glass. The finish is long, textured and absolutely impeccable.HK$22,000.00 -

The 2015 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly is excellent, offering up a pure and unadorned bouquet of crisp green apples, white flowers and crushed chalk that's classic Lamy. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, stony and saline, with bright, tangy acids and a pure, mineral finish. Right now, it's tight-knit and reserved, so several years' patience is advised.HK$26,145.00 -

Aromas of lemon, menthol, crushed rock and ginger, plus a suggestion of spicy oak. Very rich, pliant wine with compelling sweetness and terrific energy to its flavors of crystallized lemon and lime and minerals; there's also a pear note here that reminded me of Chassagne-Montrachet. Conveys a strong impression of sappy density without weight, with the smooth, slowly mounting, gripping finish coating the palate with crunchy fruit and saline crushed-stone minerality. This assemblage of multiple parcels should make an outstanding Saint-Aubin wine.HK$19,040.00 -

The 2018 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru is adorned with an initially oily, almost petrolly nose that recedes to leave aromas of freshly cut lemon plus a subtle algae note. Well balanced with fine acidity, this En Remilly is very cohesive towards the finish with lingering lemon curd and orange rind. Very good length, this is a brilliant wine.HK$10,715.00 -

The 2019 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru has a clean, precise bouquet that delivers palpable energy and gains complexity in the glass, evoking memories of clambering over cockles in my seaside hometown, a briny tang in the air. The palate is very well balanced with a sapid entry, lovely weight in the mouth and hints of sour lemon on the finish that get the saliva flowing... again! Have a second bottle handy – you’ll need it. Closure: DiamHK$9,935.00 -

The 2020 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru comes from two parcels. This is perhaps the one cuvée that betrays a bit of exoticism on the nose: apricot and passion fruit, perhaps just eroding a bit of the terroir expression. The palate is well balanced with plenty of body, but for me this doesn't quite deliver the tension and nervosité as Lamy's other cuvées.HK$4,435.00 -

(30 hectoliters per hectare produced): Pale yellow. Brisk aromas of lemon and ginger. Then surprisingly supple in the mouth, offering captivating flavors of grilled hazelnut, spices and white pepper. The long, rising finish features strong salty minerality along with a faint hard edge that will require a long élevage.HK$12,530.00 -

The 2018 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Frionnes was showing brilliantly, soaring from the glass with notes of pear, lemon oil, wheat toast and iodine. Medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, it's layered and complete, with lively acids and a long, precise finish. At 13.8% alcohol, this is one of the riper wines in the cellar, yet that was imperceptible when I tased it.HK$11,095.00 -

The 2019 Saint-Aubin Les Frionnes 1er Cru embraces subtle tropical notes on the nose, where hints of nectarine and apricot intertwine with fine mineralité . The palate is well balanced with sour lemon and lime on the entry, spicy and quite persistent, and very harmonious on the finish. There is a lot going on here, and it is perhaps Lamy's wine that will have the widest appeal. Closure: DiamHK$7,365.00 -

The 2020 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Frionnes is one of the more reserved wines in the range, unwinding in the glass with aromas of orange zest, confit citrus, crisp yellow apple and white flowers. It's medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, with racy acids and a long, saline finish. Forget it for the better part of a decade in the cellar and reap the rewards, even if it will be approachable sooner.HK$3,020.00 -

(a very small crop from degenerating old vines): Pale yellow. Musky apple, smoke and a whiff of iodine on the nose. Very rich, broad and classically dry, with orchard fruit and spice flavors framed and energized by harmonious acidity. Has the dry extract to support its slightly tannic impression and really resounds on the back end. Plenty of dimension here, but this wine will need time to fill in.HK$3,975.00 -

The 2020 Santenay Les Gravières 1er Cru has quite an intense bouquet with liquorice-tinged citrus fruit, one of Lamy's "feisty" 2020s. The palate is pithy with plenty of extract, a texturally satisfyingly Santenay rather than one with overt fruit, something almost Rhône-like towards the finish. An intriguing prospect.HK$6,190.00 -

The 2018 Santenay Clos des Gravières 1er Cru Rouge is actually working toward one of Lamy’s high-density vineyards at 20,000 per hectare, although the interpolated young vines are too young to go into the blend at the moment. This has lovely red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit aromas, very pure and harmonious. The palate is lively and effervescent on the entry, with chalky tannins and bright red currant and cranberry fruit toward the finish. Excellent.HK$5,430.00 -

The 2019 Santenay Clos des Gravières Vieilles Vignes has a perfumed bouquet that shows more delineation and poise than the 2020. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, fine acidity and fine-boned with ample mineralité on the finish. Excellent.HK$3,995.00
