Vinous (91-93)
(the Bouleys own a parcel of 50-to-55-year-old vines in the windy northern part of the cru that mostly avoided the frost in 2016; almost entirely destemmed): Full, deep red. Aromas of dark cherry and black raspberry are complemented by a musky oak element. Concentrated, rich and sweet, displaying an old-vines density to its flavors of cherry and saline minerality. This nuanced wine seems a bit less austere than usual but is nonetheless a more powerful style than the Carelles. Finishes with ripe tannins, subtle persistence and noteworthy grip.HK$4,250.00 -
Vinous (90-92)
The 2017 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru includes 50% whole bunch fruit. It has a clean and precise bouquet, quite tight at the moment with touches of chalk filtered through the red fruit. The palate is crisp and taut with fine tannin, impressive mineralité. Not a powerful Clos des Chênes but certainly precise and lightly spiced on the finish. Good potential, but this will need patience.HK$6,935.00 -
Vinous (92-94)
The 2018 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru comes from 45- to 65-year-old vines in a more exposed location than the Les Carelles, at 300m altitude. This year it includes 40% whole cluster. It has more complexity and precision on the nose by comparison with the Les Carelles, featuring lovely raspberry and wild strawberry fruit laced with crushed stone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. A finely tuned, precise Volnay with superb precision on the finish. This comes highly recommended.HK$7,290.00 -
Vinous (93)
The 2019 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru offers darker fruit on the nose compared to Bouley's other cuvées, touches of blackberry, wilted rose petals and crushed stone. The terroir really shines through. The palate is framed by filigree tannins that impart a silky texture, almost languorous on the finish that lingers. A sensual offering.HK$10,385.00 -
