    Monbousquet

A classic Saint-Emilion estate dating to the 16th century, this chateau has been producing its eponymous wine since the 1800s. The modern day has seen the consultancy of Michel Rolland improve the standing of the property and the quality of the wine immensely. A stablemate of Chateau Pavie, Monbousquet was elevated to Cru Classe status in 2006.

    James Suckling (95)

Aromas of blackberries and meat with hints of spices. Full body, with round and juicy tannins. Lots of wood right now but loads of focused fruit too. This is structured and powerful. Needs at least five to six years to come around. Best Monbousquet ever?

Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Monbousquet slides effortlessly out of the glass with seductive notes of baked plums, blackberry compote and dried mulberries plus hints of espresso, black olives and tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is firmly structured with chewy tannins and lively acidity framing the Rubenesque fruit, finishing long and savory.

    James Molesworth (93)

Not shy, with hefty fig paste and blackberry pâte de fruit notes backed by a rumble of bramble, ganache and licorice snap. Underneath roils a base layer of tobacco and graphite that should slowly surface with time. May have pushed the extraction envelope ever so slightly, but this keeps it together in the end. Best from 2022 through 2032.

    Jeb Dunnuck (93-95)

A year-in, year-out value, the 2019 Château Monbousquet knocks it out of the park with its ripe, sexy, yet also elegant profile. Currants, black cherries, blueberries, toasted spice, chocolate, and a touch of minerality all define the bouquet, and it's beautifully balanced, has richness as well as elegance, and is unquestionably a stunning 2019!

    Monbousquet Blanc 2011 (12x75cl)

    Vinous - Ian D'Agata (90-93)

Bright yellow with a golden tinge. Ripe, oaky aromas of passion fruit, banana, vanilla and pink grapefruit. Enters the mouth rich and sweet, then turns more vibrant in the middle, showing pure, smooth flavors of tropical fruits and tangerine. Very impressive, rich, almost honeyed finish. Though I know this flies in the face of conventional wisdom, I really think that this wine is almost always one of the top three wines in Gerard Perse's portfolio, which of course is dominated by his reds.

    The Wine Independent (92)

A blend of 2/3 Sauvignon Blanc and 1/3 Sauvignon Gris, the 2019 Monbousquet Blanc d'Exception sings of lemon tart, grapefruit, and Bosc pear with nuances of chalk dust, coriander seed, and wet slate. Medium to full-bodied, it has a lovely satiny texture with tons of bright, refreshing citrus fruits, finishing on a lingering white pepper note.
