Vinous (96)Dark and brooding, the 2011 Chambertin Clos de Bèze is fabulous today. Stylistically, the Bèze is quite a bit richer than the Chambertin, although it lacks just a touch of that wine's finesse. That is a pretty small complaint for a wine that delivers so much pure intensity. Layers of dark blue/purplish fruit fill out the wine's frame effortlessly, followed by violet, spice, smoke and licorice overtones. In 2011, the Bèze is exotic, resonant and compelling to the core. |

Vinous (94)The 2012 Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru shows the power and pure intensity of the year, while capturing the essence of Chapelle. Dark red cherry, plum, mint, spices and new leather notes meld together in a Burgundy that is both voluptuous and intensely tannic. The 2012 hasn't really shut down in bottle, but it almost certainly will. |

Wine Spectator (93)Cherry, currant, spice, toasty oak and earth flavors are the highlights of this intense, muscular red. Balanced, with a vibrant structure. Just needs time to absorb the oak. Best from 2019 through 2033. |

Vinous (91)Savory herbs, tobacco, mint, wild flowers and dried rose petals lift out of the glass in Pierre Damoy's 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice. This is an especially aromatic, perfumed Justice that impresses for its overall balance and pure class. There is a lot to like here, including the wine's early accessibility. Grippy tannins support the expressive finish. Damoy used 30% whole clusters on the Justice. |
