The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers presents the more intense side of Chambolle. Layers of dark fruit emerge from this muscular, deep wine. There is fabulous richness in the glass, along with some of the sheer structure that is typical of Bonnes Mares, the vineyard that sits just above. The Sentiers seems built for the long haul. Knockout aromatics linger on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029.HK$38,140.00 -

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers has an upfront, fruit-driven bouquet with pure raspberry, wild strawberry and dried rose petal aromas that unfurl in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, gentle at first but segueing into quite a structured and multi-layered finish with edgy redcurrant and crushed strawberry notes on the finish. This is excellent. Tasted September 2016.HK$10,395.00 -

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Groffier's 2014 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Sentiers has an intense bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit, quite spicy and slightly oriental in style. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, again, spicy and lively with a sappy, saline finish that lingers long in the mouth. This is a superb, if not particularly subtle, Chambolle-Musigny destined to give many years of drinking pleasure. Tasted September 2017.HK$11,610.00 -

The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers 1er Cru has an engaging, enticing, detailed bouquet of tart red cherry, red currant, crushed stone and subtle undergrowth/fern aromas that gather momentum with aeration. The palate is beautifully balanced, with integrated new oak that complements and enhances the substance of this outstanding Chambolle-Musigny. It just feels natural and self-assured at this early stage, which is surely is a good omen for the future. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.HK$14,550.00 -

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers 1er Cru comes from a parcel of 80-year-old vines, containing 25% whole bunch fruit and matured in 75% new oak. The bouquet is completely different from Les Hauts Doix, displaying more density, darker fruit, more substance and a less airy style, but still very pure and detailed. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. There is plenty of lightly spiced black fruit, gentle grip, an appealing sense of symmetry and a longer tail on the finish than the Les Haut Doix. Superb.HK$26,605.00 -

The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers 1er Cru is well defined on the nose with blackberry, freshly tilled soil, chalk and a light marine influence. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, quite focused and demonstrates a lovely briny, quite spicy finish that feels very cohesive. This should fulfil its potential from barrel.HK$27,580.00 -

Matured in 25% new oak and 90% whole bunches, the 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers 1er Cru is the most opulent of Groffier’s 2019s with kirsch and orange zest infusing the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a little oak to be subsumed on the entry. Good weight, quite muscular for a Chambolle with liberally sprinkled black pepper enhancing the finish. A little stocky, bottle age will smooth any jagged corners.HK$12,530.00 -

These vines sit in deeply clay soils, which graciously help shield the vines from heat spells. Nicolas Groffier used 100% whole bunches (the berries are so small he doesn't want to damage the fruit) but only 20% new oak. The result is a finely scented Chambolle with pure black cherries, blackberry coulis and licorice. The medium-bodied structure is focused rather primly between the resounding acidic refreshment and sculpted tannins. 2025-35HK$5,090.00 -
