Tua Rita
About Tua Rita
Founded by Rita and Virgilio in 1984, just as the Super Tuscan wave was taking off, Tua Rita started with just 2 hectares of Sangiovese and has now grown its acreage to around 30 hectares to include Bordeaux varieties and even Syrah.
With the rise of Sassicaia, it quickly became clear that Bolgheri was a region where international varietals could thrive. Tua Rita caught on and in 1988 added another 2 hectares of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon to their holdings, some of which were initially sold to Sassicaia! The estate only began bottling their own wines in 1992 with the help of one of the best consultant oenologists in Italy, Luca D’Attoma. Together with the meticulous care and attention that Rita and Virgilio showered on their vines, Tua Rita quickly became one of the most successful Super Tuscans, standing toe to toe with the likes of Sassicaia, Masseto and Ornellaia.

The 2016 Giusto di Notri is a profound and dark blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller parts Cabernet Franc and Merlot. It exudes gravitas and importance with every sip, showing consecutive, deep layers of minerality, dark stone, spice and rich fleshy fruit, all bound by tight structure and fiber. This wine is remarkable both in terms of texture and dimension. There is a touch of sourness on the close. This is sure to be an interesting wine to follow as it opens up over the years. Indeed, the best is still to come, as Giusto di Notri is built for long cellar aging. With the next vintage, this wine celebrates its 25th birthday.HK$2,985.00 -

The 2016 Perlato del Bosco, 100% Sangiovese, is plump, juicy and forward, all qualities that are typical of Sangioveses from the southern part of Maremma, and the Suvereto in particular. Varietal red Sangiovese fruit is nicely amped up in this generous, inviting wine. A touch of new oak frames the finish nicely.HK$1,990.00 -

Tua Rita's 2016 Syrah Per Sempre is fabulous. Crème de cassis, lavender, licorice, plum and blueberry jam are all beautifully delineated. Savory, powerful and also structured, the 2016 has plenty of intensity, but it also is not as dense or obvious as has been the case in the recent past. Readers should be prepared to cellar the 2016 for at least a few years.HK$3,515.00
