  • Storm Ridge Chardonnay 2023 (6x75cl)
  • Storm Ridge Pinot Noir 2020 (6x75cl)

    Tim Atkin MW (95)

As its name suggests, this hails from a cool shale site on the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, planted as recently as 2009. It combines the density of Vrede with the perfume of Ignis, making it Hannes Storm’s most complete Pinot, with floral scents, red cherry and raspberry fruit, savoury tannins and focused acidity.

  • Storm Ridge Pinot Noir 2021 (6x75cl)

    Tim Atkin MW (96)

Ridge comes from a markedly cooler site than its stablemates Ignis and Vrede and it shows in the structure and focus of the wine. Chiselled and pithy, with notes of ginger spice, blackcurrant leaf and red cherry and a twist of clove and tobacco leaf from 15% whole clusters. Delicious.
  • Storm Ridge Pinot Noir 2022 (6x75cl)

    Tim Atkin MW (96)

Ridge is often the most backward of Hannes Storm's trio of remarkable single vineyard Pinot Noirs, sourced from an east-facing, high-density planting at 330 metres at La Vierge on the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge. Plum, black cherry and a hint of graphite are underpinned by plenty of grip, backbone and intensity. One to tuck away for a while.
  • Storm Vrede Chardonnay 2022 (6x75cl)

    Tim Atkin MW (94)

The Vrede Chardonnay uses grapes from the same site in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley as the Pinot Noir of the same name. Made with the popular CY95 clone, this shows none of the heat of the 2022 vintage, reflecting the subtlety of Hannes Storm's winemaking. Sappy, mineral and refreshing, it combines scented 25% new oak with citrus, oatmeal and pear flavours and a lingering finish.

  • Storm Vrede Chardonnay 2023 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (95+)

The Storm 2023 Hemel-En-Aarde Valley Chardonnay Vrede comes from a site a mere 1.3 kilometers from the cool Atlantic Ocean. "This is a big wine in a small package," says winemaker and proprietor Hannes Storm. It reveals tight phenolic grip and a richer style with citrus marmalade and yellow orchard fruits. You practically taste salt crystals on thickened grape skins. It offers terrific length thanks to that extra structure, finishes dry and closes with flinty mineral sensations. The 2023 vintage was rainy. Hannes Storm harvested on a Friday, and a heavy storm the next day dropped five inches of rain, causing flooding and visible erosion in the surrounding mountains.

  • Storm Vrede Pinot Noir 2022 (6x75cl)

    Tim Atkin MW (97)

Now including 20% of the 777 clone, alongside its habitual 115 base, Vrede comes from red clay soils with a high iron component. Seductively perfumed, this stunning red has fine tannins, fleshy, opulent flavours of strawberry and redcurrant, finely judged 35% new wood and undertones of rose petal and forest floor. One of the greatest ever Cape Pinot Noirs.

  • Strathmill (York Road Bottlers), Single Cask 803048A Oloroso Octave 13YO, Speyside 2008 (1x70cl)

Discover the exquisite Strathmill, Single Cask 803048A Oloroso Octave 13YO, Speyside 2008, a masterpiece from the renowned Strathmill distillery. Crafted in the heart of Speyside, this single cask expression is matured for 13 years in carefully selected Oloroso Sherry casks, imparting deep, rich flavours and a luxurious complexity. Each bottle is individually bottled from cask 803048A, ensuring a unique character and exceptional quality. The spirit presents a harmonious balance of dried fruits, dark chocolate, and subtle spices, underpinned by a velvety smooth finish. Strathmill’s commitment to traditional distilling methods, combined with meticulous attention to detail, results in a whisky of remarkable depth and elegance. Perfect for connoisseurs seeking a distinguished dram, this 2008 vintage exemplifies the finest attributes of Speyside whisky. Elevate your collection with this singular expression, celebrating Strathmill’s legacy of excellence.

  • Strathmill Speyside Single Malt Refill Hogshead Cask No. 800544 Full Cask 2017

Founded in the 1820s in the Speyside village of Keith, Strathmill is best known as the malt whisky at the heart of the J&B Rare blended scotch whisky, a role which has seen it included in one of the most popular whiskies on earth, though the single malt itself has long flown under the radar; a preserve of connoisseurs and an insider's secret.

Only one official bottling has ever been released; the exquisitely balanced, classically Speyside 12 Year Old 'Flora & Fauna' edition, now sadly discontinued. Indie bottlings are also relatively rare, though the few we do see fetch surprisingly high prices at young ages. The rarity of Strathmill on the market coupled with the good value presented by these casks gives remarkable upside for those with the patience to wait.

Strathmill's style is somewhat akin to Cragganmore, in our view; with a fair bit of sandalwood, incense and light woody spice on top of a delicate orchard fruit and citrus bouquet. This is a distillery which rewards Bourbon wood very well indeed so no re-racking necessary in this case.

  • Sugrue Cuvee Dr Brendan O’Regan 2016 (1x150cl)

    Vinous (95)

The 2016 Brut Cuvée Dr Brendan O'Regan, tasted from magnum, is a Hampshire-grown single-vineyard blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. Flint and smoke lead the aromas, with fragrant hedgerow fruit suggesting tart berry and wet stone, framed by lemon. The palate combines soil, fruit and reductive smokiness—a delight for fizz-lovers. Intense ripe lemon, tart berry and juicy red apple make the mouth water, while fine creamy mousse softens the essential English briskness. Aromatics dominate the slender finish. This wine has just begun its journey and will be a joy for years. Disgorged: January 2023.

  • Sugrue Cuvee Dr Brendan O’Regan NV (6x75cl)

    Vinous (95)

The NV Cuvée Dr Brendan O’Regan, disgorged in February 2020, is based on 2016, with some reserve of the 2009 vintage, and it is in its second release. It is named after Dermot Sugrue’s grandmother’s brother, who essentially invented duty-free in Ireland. With a slightly higher dosage (10g/L), it presents a clean, precise, very complex bouquet of gunflint and smoke combined with orange pith and honeysuckle, all extremely well defined and displaying a little more spiciness than the regular cuvées. Possessed of wonderful depth and quite saline, it fans out brilliantly toward a finish that lingers in the mouth. Stunning. 800 bottles produced.

  • Sugrue Rose Ex Machina 2016 (6x75cl)

    Falstaff (95)

Both orange peel and Red Delicious apple figure on the nose, alongside a subtle hint of fresh Viennoiserie that turns into shortcrust with more air. The palate strikes immediately with its effortlessness: there is that lovely balance between juicy freshness and mellow ripeness that you get in red apples. The slender body fizzes away with tiniest bubbles, lending creaminess and gentleness, expressing serenity, beauty and depth. Very elegant, lovely now, certain to evolve into a grandiose and gastronomic rosé.

  • Sugrue Rose Ex Machina 2018 (6x75cl)

    Jancis Robinson (17.5)

Full bottle 1,604 g. From a 7.35-ha site called Cold Harbour vineyard, planted in 2005. Sustainably farmed. 70% Pinot Noir, 20% Meunier, 10% Chardonnay. Ana and Dermot Sugrue's new release. Deep, shining, copper-coral colour. It looks like sunrise on a crisp, clear-as-a-bell autumn morning. It tastes like sunrise on a crisp, clear-as-a-bell autumn morning. The tiny bubbles are like a shower of dewdrop diamonds, which seem to turn ruby-gemstone red as they meet the sweet flood of rose hip, red apple and clementine. And then it pixelates on the tongue, crystalline acidity and exquisitely precise fruit in a kaleidoscopic collision of dazzling dimensions. Breath-taking, spine-tingling purity shot forward, arrow-like, by acidity that tastes of blood oranges. A wine to watch the sun rise with.

    Jancis Robinson (17.5++)

70% Storrington Priory and 30% Coldharbour Vineyard fruit. 60% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir. Sustainably farmed. Fermented and aged in a combination of large barrels and stainless steel. The initial release of this wine was disgorged in early January 2024. Dosage 6 g/l. 7,500 bottles produced.
The smoky, marine-scented aromas, like rain on windswept coastal cliffs, have goosebumps tingling down my neck before I've even sipped the wine. So racy it takes your breath away. White-knuckle tension, white-shell minerality, white stone fruit and long, long, sweet pithy tannins. Power in structure: salt-crusted verticality, a whisper of honey across the endless breadth. It feels like licking chiselled marble. Stern, high-cheek-bone beauty. There is so much tension in the wine that it feels like it might snap in your mouth; it feels like the crack of a whip splitting a white winter sky. I'd strongly urge laying this down for as long as you dare. If you drink it now, don't chill it as much as you might champagne and, if you can, allow it to open in the glass. I've been tasting a very large number of top-notch grower champagnes recently and by comparison the Sugrue wines, every bit as good, are underpriced (for which read VGV).

  • Suntory Hibiki 21YO Japanese Whisky NV (1x70cl)

    Whisky Advocate (93)

Deep layers of vanilla and mizunara oak with sugar sprinkled pastries, incense sticks, oiled wood, tatami, dried apricot, golden sultana, and faint smoky spiciness. Nectarous mouthfeel with honey, barley sugar, dried citrus, orange peel, and delicate spices, it continues to sweeten beautifully showing vanilla, sugared almonds, banana custard, with hints of ginger and gentle oak. Slightly gummy finish as the vanilla quenches little eruptions of wood spices.

  • Swartberg Wingerde Holism Garnacha 2021 (6x75cl)

    Decanter (93)

Rudiger Gretschel is production director for South African giant Vinimark, but also makes his own wines in rugged Piekenierskloof under the Swartberg Wingerde label. Old vines are grown 80km from the sea at 600m; grapes are fermented with wild yeast in concrete and just 20% is aged in used oak. The result calls to mind new-wave Garnachas from Spain’s Sierra de Gredos: vibrant and elegant with appealing freshness. Bright cherry, strawberry and plum nose with a whisper of smoke and white pepper. Lovely purity of fruit on the lifted palate, allied with powdery tannins, subtle spice, a core of minerality and a lingering seam of refreshing acidity.
  • Swartberg Wingerde Sangiro Pinotage 2021 (6x75cl)

Poised and lifted, with bright fragrant red berry aromas, the linear palate has crunchy raspberry and pomegrante fruit, with gentle touches of spice and fynbos, plus lithe tannins. Only 1,410 bottles made.

  • Taaibosch Crescendo 2018 (6x75cl)

    Tim Atkin MW (97)

Very few recent South African releases have been as eagerly awaited as this 2018 red from the old Cordoba property on the flank of the Helderberg. And it doesn't disappoint in the slightest. Cabernet Franc-centred, with 24% Merlot and 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, the new crescendo is a beautifully refined, detailed red from 21-year-old vines. Violet and cut grass aromas lead into a palate that is fresh, bright and comparatively low in alcohol with filigree tannins, subtle wood, fine tension and the focus and balance to age. What a début!
