  • Wagner-Stempel Siefersheimer Hollberg Riesling Grosses Gewachs 2017 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (92)

Apple seed and wet stone on the nose anticipate a somewhat austere palate impression, though fortunately not one lacking in fresh apple and pear juiciness. The feel here is subtly waxy. Fruit skin chewiness lends invigorating tang to a finish whose simultaneous richness seamlessly perpetuates the wine’s midpalate impression, and to which alkaline and stony notes lend fascinating counterpoint. Not for the first time, I prefer the exuberance and sheer sensual appeal of the ostensibly lesser “Porphyr” bottling, but time may bring an extra measure of depth to this Höllberg.

  • Warre's 1970 (1x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (87)

This house makes rather restrained yet rich, flavorful vintage port and a very good tawny called Nimrod. Their vintage ports seem slow to develop, and while they never quite have the voluptuous richness of a Dow, Graham, or Fonseca, they have a unique mineral-scented character that gives them their own complexity and style. The 1970 remains rather unyielding but still impressive.

  • Warre's 1994 (12x75cl)
    (12x75cl) 1994

    Wine Advocate (94)

One of the finest Warres I have ever tasted, this opaque purple-colored wine is made in a drier style (a la Dow), yet it is expressive, extremely full-bodied, with superb richness, purity, and well-integrated alcohol and tannin. It possesses a great mid-palate as well as impressive length. Tasters should take note of the wealth of peppery, licorice-scented and flavored raspberry and blackcurrant fruit. Look for it to be ready to drink in 10-12 years, and keep for 30+. This is a profound example of Warre vintage port.

    Jancis Robinson (18.5)

Deep blackish purple. Lovely lift and savour. Slight hint of sawdust on extremely luscious fruit then some fine tannins. Pretty interesting, if non-classic wine. A real flatterer. Long but with great interest. Dry finish.

Deep ruby. Vibrant, expressive aromas and flavors of kirsch, dark chocolate and flowers. Very dense, fat and sweet, with excellent inner-mouth energy leavening the impression of lushness. Finishes long and sweetly tannic, with a bit of brandy to be absorbed. This has the density and tannic clout for a graceful evolution in bottle.

  • Warre's 2011 (1x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93-95)

The Warre’s Vintage was picked beginning on September 18 at Quinta da Cavindha, with fruit also sourced from Quinta do Retiro and Quinta da Telhada. It is a blend of 37% Touriga Nacional, 23% Tinta Franca and 40% mixture of old vines. There is a lovely sea spray note on the 2011 Warre’s that emerges after ten minutes in the glass. It is nicely defined with a tangible mineral component. The palate is very well-balanced with fine tannins, very well-judged acidity and a languorous feel, as if everything is in place and it does not want to show off. This is a lovely, refined 2011 – one of the most elegant 2011s. This is a classic Warre’s. 3,000 cases declared. Tasted May 2013.
