Fresh cherry and lime garlanded in lily and laced with basil, mint and wintergreen inform a perfumed nose and a lusciously juicy, polished, buoyant, coolingly herbal palate. Freshness and vivacity are the watchwords for a refreshingly lingering, multifaceted finish underlain by wet stone and supportively but only subtly kissed with sweetness. Given 9 percent alcohol, one can be sure that the residual sugar is at a modest levels, yet there is all of the levity one could wish for from a Kabinett.HK$3,640.00 -

Behind some fermentative notes on the nose come Bernkastel-typical scents of mint-tinged lime and fresh dark cherry that set the theme for a delicate, polished, juicy palate performance. This finishes with lift and refreshment, its sweetness supportive but not at all blatant, and with subtle wet stone underpinnings perceived with watercolor-like transparency through a wash of fruit flavors.HK$1,385.00 -

The 2021 Bernkasteler Badstube Kabinett offers a clear, bright and coolish, intense and mineral nose with notes of crushed stones and lime and lemon zest. This is another Prüm 2016 seductively loaded with floral perfume, but here it’s bittersweet, suggesting gentian and iris as well as honeysuckle. The palate and superbly sustained finish deliver delicacy allied to silken richness and gloss, featuring intense pear, pineapple, quince and almond paste flavors together with striking transparency to stony and maritime mineral nuances.HK$830.00 -

The 2019 Graacher Himmelreich Auslese is clear, fresh and spicy on the deep, concentrated, very fine and flinty as well as vegetal and floral nose. Round and intense on the palate, this is a complex, tight and sustainably salty and refreshing Auslese in the digestible, food-friendly style. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.HK$2,000.00 -

The 2020 Graacher Himmelreich Auslese is discreet and remarkably coolish on the dense and lemon-scented nose compared to Zeltingen and Bernkastel. White peach and nectarine aromas intertwined with coolish broken slate aromas make this a savory and irresistible Auslese, even though, or exactly because of it, this is so discreet and only subversively erotic on the nose. The palate then reveals stunning lightness and finesse based on a filigreed structure and highly refined and zesty acidity. This is almost weightless, but it has a sweet core that materializes the fruit, whereas in the transcendental Zeltinger Sonnenuhr, it's more of an idea. 7% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine from AP 19 21 in July 2022.HK$2,760.00 -

The 2023 Graacher Himmelreich Auslese (Long Gold Capsule / Auction) is deep, refined and intense on the nose that reveals tropical fruit aromas along with delicate spice notes. Intense yet refined and savory on the palate, this is a rich and intense, very generous and long, savory and lemony Auslese with crunchy grip and remarkable mineral and tension-giving acidity. 8% stated alcohol. The Prum (non-auction cuvee of) 2008 Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese gold capsule A.P. #13 bursts from the glass with a Chartreuse-like amalgam of herbal and floral distillates and hints of smoke, as well as suggestions of brown-spiced apple, quince, and white peach preserves that then lushly saturate the palate. Candied lemon and grapefruit rind, licorice, and white raisin add further complexity, and it is remarkable the extent to which one gives no thought to either the wine’s sweetness or its leavening acidity as such. Seamlessly rich, it seems to levitate over into its long finish, pulling out an amazing burst of sheer refreshment. I would anticipate this being well worth following for four decades. Late botrytis caught the fruit of the Himmelreich at an optimal stage, whereas by that point – explains Manfred Prum – fruit in the Wehlener Sonnenuhr was already too ripe and its skins too precarious.HK$8,375.00 -

This non-auction gold-capsule bottling delivers a multifaceted nose featuring candied lime peel, apple and quince jellies, heliotrope and an intriguing meld of yeasty stale bread, florally honeyed and subtly truffly manifestations of botrytis. The creamy, expansive palate reprises all of the aforementioned elements, but also introduces generous parallel juiciness of fresh apple and lime. Displaying wonderful lift and delicacy, the lusciously lingering finish is transparent to stony, crystalline and floral nuances.HK$7,090.00 -

Lemon, pineapple, and blackcurrant site-typically scent the Prum 2010 Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Spatlese and are then projected onto a palate underlain with wet stone. A faintly smoky, prickly aura of reduction doesn’t preclude one relishing this wine’s effusive, delectable juiciness. Indeed, like the bit of CO2 Spritz that typically characterizes Prum Rieslings, it somehow enhances the wines appealingly invigorating nervous energy. Salt and stone seem to be thoroughly deposited in a tongue-quivering finish. Expect this to – again in estate-typical fashion – reward 20-30 years’ bottle maturation.HK$4,425.00 -

The 2019 Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese is coolish and flinty on the slate-dominated nose that reveals an intense but herbal and terroir-driven bouquet. Sweet and finessed on the palate, this is a crystalline, elegant and salty-piquant Spätlese with a still astringently mineral finish. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.HK$1,600.00 -

The 2021 Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese is very clear, bright and elegant on the saline and beautifully balanced nose that delivers bright and quite intense fruit aromas intermingled with weathered slate and also citrus aromas. On the palate, this is a round and intense, mouth-filling and lush, almost creamy-textured Himmelreich with a long, complex and saline finish. It needs some time, though. 7.5% stated alcohol. The sense of clarity in the Joh. Jos. Prum 2008 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese extends also to an aromatic display unclouded by the sort of fermentative notes found in the corresponding Spatlese and Kabinett when I tasted those. Honeysuckle, heliotrope, distilled herbal essences, apple and quince practically explode from the glass, and lush marzipan, vanilla cream, quince preserves, and apple jelly as well as liquid floral essences inform a nevertheless refreshing palate. Savory saline as well as stony and somehow crystalline expressions of things mineral add counterpoint and complexity, and this finishes with extraordinary, saliva-inducing persistence. “The sort of further selection of botrytis grapes that we did this year in Graach,” remarks Manfred Prum, “would not have succeeded in Wehlen” where no further Auslese was essayed, and I would not be surprised if the inclusion in this wine of parcels whose fruit might more often have been destined for auction is part of what renders it so impressive.HK$5,795.00 -

The 2019 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese is deep and intense on the nicely reductive yet concentrated and spicy-mineral nose that reveals a flinty/crunchy slate aroma with generous but elegant and refined fruit and subtle grapefruit aromas. On the palate, this Auslese displays a fine raisin aroma of perfectly ripe and overripe Riesling grapes, whereas the textured is highly finessed and beautifully balanced. This is impossible to spit, as the crystalline acidity is so delicate and interwoven with the fruit and texture of this persistently salty beauty. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.HK$3,675.00 -

The 2020 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese is intense and complex on the still introverted but complex nose that shows clear, bright fruit aromas (baby pineapple) intermingled with fine, flinty slate notes. What an aristocratic appearance! Round, crystalline and saline on the palate, this 2020 Auslese is much more openhearted and fruity as well as frisky and frivolous than it pretends to be on the nose. This is a really Catholic Riesling or a picture-book Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese. Its finish, however, is Protestant: rigorously linear, straight and with serious structure and grip. All in all, this is the world's most ecumenical Sonnenuhr. Pure fascination. 7% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine from AP 38 21 in July 2022.HK$2,745.00 -

The 2021 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese is concentrated and fresh on the aromatic nose that is immediately present but also still reductive. Ripe stone fruit aromas intermingle with notes of crushed stones on a deep foundation of aromas from the soil and the fruit of old vines. On the palate, the 2021 is very fine but also intense, savory, saline and lush, leading to a long, intense and highly digestible finish with crunchy and cleansing slate features. Again, this is a fabulous Auslese from Prüm's iconic Sonnenuhr. 7% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in May 2023.HK$3,200.00
