  • Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatieres 2019 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (94)

The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru has a little more amplitude compared to the Clavaillon, scents of Granny Smith apples and dewy meadow on a cold morning. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, a little more weight and girth than the Clavaillon, not to mention a touch more salinity and race on the persistent finish. Excellent. Closure: Diam 30

  • Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Aux Cras 2021 (6x75cl)

    Jancis Robinson (16.5)

Cask sample. Pale garnet. Sweet nose and rather less freshness than the Boucherottes. Just a little less precise. But all may come right with bottle age.

  • Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers 2018 (6x75cl)

    Jancis Robinson (17.5)

Danish pastries and roasted plums on the nose, very sweet and spicy. Fleshy and opulent on the palate, with great intensity of fruit. The tannins build and offer depth, structure and savour. Long and expansive on the finish.

  • Louis Jadot Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode 2021 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (90-92)

The 2021 Savigny-lès-Beaune La Dominode 1er Cru feels more constricted at present when compared to the Clos des Guettes. The nose highlights dark plum and raspberry, yet is just missing a little amplitude. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins. The pedigree of the climat comes through here; it's pretty sweet and opulent towards the finish, so it belies the coolness of that summer. Give this a couple of years in bottle because it is a well-crafted Savigny.

  • Malartic Lagraviere 2014 (12x75cl)

    Vinous - Antonio Galloni (94+)

The 2014 Malartic-Lagravière is a gorgeous wine, but it is also flamboyant and exotic, especially in its flavor profile. Super-ripe red cherry and plum make a strong first impression. Sweet floral and spice notes, along with ripe, silky tannins, add to the wine's sensuality. A rich, powerful wine with soft contours and striking depth, the 2014 is a real beauty. It will be even more compelling once the new oak tannins soften a bit further. The blend is 52 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 40 % Merlot, 5 % Cabernet Franc and 3 % Petit Verdot. Tasted two times.

  • Marc Morey & Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru En Virondot 2020 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (92-94)

The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Virondot 1er Cru, which unlike the other Premier Crus was taken from barrel, has a lovely bouquet with hazelnut, orange rind, wet granite and just a touch of praline. The palate is very well balanced with an irresistible peachy entry that segues into a gorgeous quince-tinged finish. Often one of the Domaine best offerings, this Virondot is another to add in a succession of great wines from this climat.

  • Marc Roy Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Prieur 2019 (6x75cl)

    Burghound (91)

A ripe yet agreeably elegant, pure and airy nose consists of dark currant, spice, lavender, earth and a pretty range of floral nuances. The equally pure mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors possess a really lovely sense of underlying tension while delivering fine persistence on the sappy, balanced and solidly complex finish. This youthfully austere effort is shaped by similar but denser fine-grained tannins while offering better depth. This too is lovely and well-worth checking out.

  • Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets 2009 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93)

The 2009 Volnay Caillerets is one of the subtler polished wines in this lineup. A model of weightless elegance, it presents hints of rose petals, sweet red cherries, licorice and minerals, all wrapped up in a sensual package that is impossible to resist. The wine’s understated finesse and inner sense of energy are both remarkable. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029.

  • Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs 2010 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (96)

Good medium red. Captivating aromas of black cherry, dark raspberry, minerals and flowers have shed the reductive character that made this wine difficult to taste shortly after the bottling. Juicy, penetrating and wonderfully elegant, delivering outstanding flavor intensity without any impression of heaviness. Red berry, red cherry and flowers dominate the middle palate, with an element of saline minerality expanding with air. Really stains the palate and titillates the salivary glands on the very long, rising finish. This wine is so well-balanced that it's delicious right now, but it has the solidity, sappiness and tannic structure for a slow and graceful evolution in the cellar. A transcendent premier cru. (14.1% alcohol; September 23 harvest; 3.5 pH; a major attack of oidium in Clos des Ducs in August resulted in a crop level of just 19 hectoliters per hectare, according to Angerville, who noted that the younger vines in the upper part of the vineyard were particularly affected)

  • Michel Bouzereau Meursault 1er Cru Genevrieres 2013 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (93)

Pale bright yellow. Pear, apple and stone on the nose. Juicy and intense on the palate, showing lovely energy and minerality. A major step up in intensity and length from the Charmes, displaying lovely definition and a saline quality. Offers a rather refined texture, with its harmonious acidity well supported by flesh. Finishes with good lingering fruit and stone flavors.

  • Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets 2019 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93-95)

The 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets is shaping up beautifully, unfurling in the glass with scents of peonies, sweet berry fruit, blood orange, smoke and warm spices. Medium to full-bodied, lively and perfumed, it's velvety and charming, with melting tannins and an ample core of fruit. This is the highest in alcohol of all of Rossignol's 2019s, but it appears to be seamlessly integrated.

  • Philippe Pacalet Chablis 1er Cru Beauroy 2021 (12x75cl)

The Philippe Pacalet Chablis 1er Cru Beauroy 2021 hails from the revered vineyards of Burgundy, France. Renowned sommelier-turned-winemaker, Philippe Pacalet, brilliantly showcases terroir-expressive winemaking in this captivating vintage. Carefully balancing tradition with innovation, Pacalet utilises biodynamic techniques, eschewing added yeasts and enzymes to allow for the pure expression of the Chardonnay grape.

This Chablis premier cru is emblematic of the former sommelier's respect for nature and precision in winemaking. Its remarkable minerality, attributed to the Kimmeridgian soil of Beauroy, complements the wine's core of lemony freshness and floral appeal. The result is a harmonious blend of roundness and directness, presenting a structured yet elegant profile.

Philippe Pacalet Chablis 1er Cru Beauroy 2021 offers a refined interpretation of Chablis with a compelling display of fruit purity and layered complexity, serving as an unforgettable ode to its terroir.

  • Philippe Pacalet Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru 2016 (6x75cl)

Featuring a sublime character and excellent subtlety, the Philippe Pacalet Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru 2016 encapsulates the mastery of its talented producer, Philippe Pacalet. This renowned winemaker, nephew of Marcel Lapierre, carries forth the family's traditional and natural winemaking methods — free of chemicals, minimal intervention, and respect for the terroir. Renown for its elegance and intensity, the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru 2016 is thoughtfully hand-harvested in the revered vineyards of Chambolle-Musigny, situated in Côte de Nuits, Burgundy. The wine's character is derived from the limestone-rich soils that influence the expressive, intricate flavour profile comprising red fruit notes, balanced by earthy undertones. Pacalet implements semi-carbonic maceration and unique vinification methods to further enhance the wine's structure and finesse. This biodynamic Burgundy red, elegant and beautifully balanced, promises an exquisite drinking experience for the discerning wine connoisseur.

  • Pierre Girardin Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatieres 2017 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (92)

From an enclave within the premier cru climat that lost the appellation when the former proprietor brought in topsoil from elsewhere, Girardin's 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières is showing beautifully, wafting from the glass with notes of citrus oil, mandarin, pastry cream and toasted hazelnuts. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, this is a concentrated, racy and penetrating Pulginy that is well worth seeking out. I suspect that this cuvée will emerge as one of the star attractions of this new estate's portfolio.

  • Robert Chevillon Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots 2013 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (88-90)

The 2013 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru les Chaignots has darker fruit on the nose than the village cru: blackberry and raspberry, light sous-bois scents emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly lactic entry, hints of mocha lining the red berry fruit with quite a forward, sumptuous finish that comes as a surprise given the vintage. This may improve once in bottle.

  • Robert Chevillon Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains 2017 (6x75cl)

    Decanter (95)

Les Vaucrains is marked by its proximity to the combe at the southern end of Nuits-St-Georges, which gives the wine an added lift of freshness. Like Les St-Georges which abuts it, this is quite a firm, shuttered wine with an overlay of 30% new wood, good concentration, fine tannins and enough backbone and acidity to age.

  • Sylvain Cathiard Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts 2012 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (94)

Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Vosne Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts from winemaker Sebastian Cathiard was showing some reduction like de Montille's Malconsorts: rather animally on the nose with a touch of rubber, missing the delineation it might have otherwise possessed. Returning after ten minutes, that feral aspect ebbs away. The palate is medium-bodied with supple and sweet tannin. It shakes off that reduction to reveal a nicely defined, quite voluminous finish that is bursting with red fruit. If it does pull through it will deserve a very good mark and I suspect it will do just that.

  • Vilmart Coeur de Cuvee 2014 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (94)

The 2014 Brut Coeur de Cuvée impresses with its density and overall energy. Apricot, baked apple tart, spice, chamomile and lightly honeyed accents all meld together. The 2014 is deep and beautifully centered, with tons of poise and impeccable balance. It's a pretty big wine by Vilmart standards, and yet all the elements are so well put together. The blend is 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir. Disgorged: March, 2021.

  • Vilmart Grand Cellier d'Or 2014 (3x150cl)

    Wine Advocate (94+)

Revisited from the September 2018 disgorgement, Vilmart's 2014 Brut Premier Cru Grand Cellier d'Or is showing beautifully, wafting from the glass with scents of pear, toasted brioche, white flowers, crisp peach and honeycomb. Medium to full-bodied, vinous and incisive, with superb depth at the core, racy acids and a bright, unerringly precise finish, it's still very youthful—to the extent that I'd love to be broaching a full case a decade from now.

  • Vilmart Grand Cellier NV (6x75cl)

    Vinous (92)

The NV Brut Grand Cellier is bright, effusive and wonderfully charming. White flowers, chalk, mint and lemon confit give this mid-weight, nervy Champagne tons of energy. All the elements are so nicely put together. I especially like the energy and crystalline purity here. There are a lot of terrific wines in this range, but the Grand Cellier is quintessentially Vilmart. This release is based on 2019, with the addition of reserve wines from 2018. Dosage is 7 grams per liter. Disgorged: May 2022.

  • Vilmart Les Blanches Voies Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru 2009 (1x75cl)

    Vinous (96)

The combination of the warm year and the natural richness conferred by these 70+- year-old vines yields a powerful, vinous Champagne with tremendous character, depth and the pedigree to drink well for many years. Laurent Champs gave the Blanc de Blancs 7 years on the cork, as opposed to the 6 that are customary for the Coeur de Cuvée. Dosage is 4 grams per liter. Disgorged: March, 2017.

  • Vougeraie 1er Cru Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot Monopole 2017 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (92+)

There are 13,053 bottles of Domaine de la Vougeraie's superb 2017 Vougeot 1er Cru Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot, representing a modest yield for this emblematic monopole. Opening in the glass with a pretty bouquet of fresh green pear, peach, mandarin oil and petrol, framed by a discreet touch of nutty new oak, the wine is medium to full-bodied, racy and precise, with a delicate and elegantly tight-knit core of fruit and a long, precise finish. As readers may know, small percentages of Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc complement Chardonnay in this cuvée.
